Full-Time Mechanical Engineer, Solidworks
Saab Inc.’s Land Systems division is seeking a Mechanical Engineer with experience in weapon systems engineering design, development, and production support. The engineer will be a member of the Mechanical Engineering team responsible for the development of shoulder-fired munitions and precision fire systems. Additionally, the engineer will collaborate with other engineering disciplines, program management, the chief engineer, and various other functions to accomplish assigned tasks.
Responsibilities include:
- Application of mechanical engineering principles for the design and development of mechanical components and assemblies by system requirements.
- Develop CAD models of electronic, mechanical, and electro-mechanical components and assemblies.
- Documentation of design solutions, including reports, engineering drawings, and Bill of Materials (BOM).
- Present and discuss technical concepts, tradeoffs, analyses, designs, and performance estimates.
- Interface with Systems Engineering and other disciplines to develop/define/implement customer requirements.
- Follow through on full product lifecycle: development, prototyping, integration, verification, deployment, and support.
- Incorporate Mechanical Engineering best practices, Design for Cost, Maintainability, and Manufacturability.
- Identify, manage, and solve problems associated with mechanical engineering work products.
- Apply experience and knowledge to resolve design, supplier quality, manufacturing, and field issues.
- Follow company standard operating procedures and Quality System requirements.
- Provide effective communication across functional teams.
- Work as key member of a cross-functional team to develop mechanical and electro-mechanical solutions.
- Domestic and Foreign Travel may be required up to 20%.

Required Experience and Skills:
- Typically requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering field and 2+ years of relevant experience. A Master’s Degree in related field may be substituted for additional years of experience.
- Experience in basic mechanical design, documentation, and production support.
- Demonstrated ability to solve technical challenges while working in a cross-functional team.
- Demonstrated expertise in mechanical engineering fundamentals.
- Experience with 3D CAD software.
- Experience with configuration management systems.
- Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively (written and verbal)
- Demonstrated mechanical aptitude with proven hands-on experience.
- Must hold or be able to hold a U.S. DoD SECRET security clearance.
Desired Experience and Skills:
- Experience in design, development, testing, and production support of weapon systems.
- Experience with DoD programs.
- Familiarity with Military Standards, ruggedized equipment design, and environmental test requirements.
- Experience with ANSI/ASME Y14.5 Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
- Experience with SolidWorks
- Experience with Design for Manufacturability (DFM)

Currently, the position is remote, with a home office; relocation will be required to the Detroit, MI area.
