Job summary

Applied Materials is seeking a Mechanical Engineer in Santa Clara to design and modify mechanical layouts, schematics, and specifications, overseeing manufacturing and installation processes and coordinating procurement for design projects.

The role requires a strong foundation in physics, mathematics, and materials science, with a focus on solving mechanical problems and enabling tooling and part assembly throughout the product life cycle.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required.
• 2–4 years of related experience.
• Experience with CAD software, thermodynamics, sheet metal design, material selection, manufacturing methods, GD&T, and Design for Excellence principles.

Responsibilities

• Perform engineering analysis under general supervision.
• Design or modify basic mechanical engineering layouts, schematics, or drawings/specifications under general supervision.
• Coordinate the procurement and assembly of mechanical components and equipment for design projects; identify sources of critical parts and subsystems to resolve moderately complex technical issues.
• Perform and document engineering test reports; generate alpha/gamma documentation for product releases.
• Perform engineering analysis; troubleshoot a variety of mechanical problems of moderate difficulty under general supervision.
• Design, develop and implement custom mechanical tooling, fixturing and associated processes as needed.
• Enable the handling, assembly and/or disassembly of parts, components, sub‑assemblies and final assemblies throughout the product life cycle, as needed.
