Placements24 is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join the Product Development team in East London, Eastern Cape. You will design, prototype, test, and refine mechanical systems and components, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to bring innovative automated logistics technology to market.

Competenze

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.

About the Role

Our client, a forward-thinking manufacturer of specialized equipment for the logistics and warehousing industry, is seeking a creative and diligent Mechanical Engineer to join their Product Development team. This role, based in East London, Eastern Cape , will involve the design, prototyping, testing, and refinement of new mechanical systems and components. The ideal candidate will have a solid foundation in mechanical design principles, a passion for innovation, and experience with the full product development lifecycle. You will work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team to bring innovative solutions from concept to market, contributing to the advancement of automated logistics technology. Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop mechanical components and assemblies for new products using 3D CAD software.
• Create detailed engineering drawings, specifications, and Bills of Materials (BOMs).
• Conduct feasibility studies and initial concept development for new product ideas.
• Build and test prototypes, analyze performance data, and make necessary design modifications.
• Collaborate with electrical, software, and manufacturing engineers throughout the product development process.
• Perform basic engineering calculations and simulations to validate designs.
• Assist in the preparation of technical documentation and user guides.
• Identify opportunities for product improvement and cost reduction.
• Stay informed about new technologies and industry trends in mechanical engineering and automation.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• 1-3 years of experience in mechanical design or product development, ideally within the automation, robotics, or machinery sector.
• Proficiency in 3D CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Inventor) and 2D drafting.
• Basic understanding of engineering analysis tools (FEA is a plus).
• Knowledge of materials, manufacturing processes (machining, fabrication, injection molding), and standard mechanical components.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Good communication and teamwork abilities.
