Job summary

Blue Origin in Van Horn, Texas seeks an experienced Mechanical/Fluid Engineer for the New Shepard program to help test rocket engines and facilities. You will design piping layouts, coordinate with suppliers, and oversee construction, installation, and commissioning of high-pressure fluid systems for test stands.

You will perform stress analysis, specify pipe supports, lead HAZOP activities, mentor junior engineers, and provide remote and on-site support.

Qualifications

  • Minimum Qualifications: Bachelors Degree in Mechanical, Chemical, Aerospace Engineering, or related field.
  • 5+ years (Level III), 2+ years (Level II) of industry experience.
  • Demonstrated expertise in piping system design and analysis.
  • Competency with Bentley AutoPipe and/or CAESAR.
  • Demonstrated expertise in pipe support selection, design, and analysis.
  • Practical knowledge of standard installation and fabrication methods for piping systems (pipe stock, fittings, connections, fasteners, welding, etc.).

  • Define and specify pipe support components (anchors, guides, spring hangers, etc.).
  • Design and analyze structural supports.
  • Lead and own the design of high-pressure gas and cryogenic fluid systems.
  • Conduct Process Hazard Analysis activities for fluid systems (HAZOP).
  • Manage suppliers, coordinating cost, schedule, and technical design requirements.
  • Provide remote and on-site support during the fabrication, installation, and start-up of new facilities or upgrades.
  • Coordinate with customers to refine project scope and requirements.
  • Mentor newer engineers and perform peer reviews as appropriate based on experience level.

This role is part of the New Shepard program. New Shepard is a reusable suborbital rocket system designed to take astronauts and research payloads past the Karman line - the internationally recognized boundary of space. Through operational reusability, New Shepard supports our mission of lowering the cost of access to space.

As part of a dynamic and dedicated team of Mechanical and Fluid Engineers, you will play a crucial role in developing systems to test rocket engines and space flight vehicles. You will contribute significantly to all aspects of test stand design. Your responsibilities will include designing fluid and piping systems for test facilities, coordinating with suppliers, and overseeing the construction, installation, and commissioning of new test facilities. Occasional travel to other sites (up to 25%) may be required to support operations.
