Job summary

Applied Atomics LLC is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to design, develop, and iterate high-reliability mechanical systems for a first-of-a-kind nuclear reactor product. You will work on precision motion systems, actuators, structural components, and safety-related assemblies in a fast-paced environment with world-class engineers.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • 4+ years of experience designing mechanical systems or precision hardware (2+ years with MS).
  • Proficiency in mechanical analysis, including hand calcs and FEA (ANSYS, Abaqus, FEMAP, etc.).
  • Experience with CAD tools (NX, SolidWorks, Creo, etc.).
  • Demonstrated understanding and application of GD&T.
  • Hardware ownership from concept to deployment and iteration.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop mechanical systems for reactor environments including motion systems and safety-related assemblies.
  • Perform design trade studies, material selection, and system-level integration.
  • Conduct structural and thermal analyses using hand calcs and FEA tools.
  • Create manufacturing, assembly, and integration instructions.
  • Develop and execute test plans; support hardware bring-up and failure analysis.
  • Collaborate with nuclear, thermal-fluids, materials, and systems engineers.
