Qualifications

• GPA 3.0+ preferred.
• Solid Microsoft Office skills, especially Excel.

Responsibilities

• Assist Engineering and Operations on process efficiency and technology projects.
• Contribute to CAD drawings, P&ID, and schematics where needed.
• Develop and own a work plan following the PDCA cycle.
• Provide regular updates to the team on proposal progress.

Description

We are seeking an intern with a Mechanical Engineering background to complete a 10 plus week internship program at our Munising Mill beginning in May 2027. The internship will provide front line exposure to engineering and operational needs of a paper production facility. The intern will primarily support engineering projects involving paper production equipment, with potential opportunities in areas such as steam and power, automation, and industrial safety.

Ideal candidates will possess high initiative and drive, with a curiosity to perpetually learn and improve our business. Key requirements include the ability to analyze information to find opportunities, effectively communicate, and work collaboratively in a team setting.

Responsibilities

• Work with Engineering and Operations team on process efficiency improvements, cost savings and/or technology advancement.
• Project work as assigned by mill management.
• Determine functional requirements of equipment, process/task or safety exposure.
• Create and own your work plan following the PDCA cycle.
• Generate conceptual solutions and communicate those concepts to team members.
• Update/convert existing mechanical drawings to electronic CAD files. Generate component or assembly drawings, piping and instrumentation diagrams, schematics, flow charts or other graphical representations through use of CAD and/or other graphical software like PowerPoint.
• Establish bill of materials and estimated cost of projects. Obtain quotes or estimate labor hours in support of project budgets.
• Provide timely updates to the engineering or operations team to capture continuous feedback on proposals or design conditions.

Qualifications

Required

• Must be at least 18 years of age
• Individual must be currently enrolled and working toward a degree with a concentration in Mechanical Engineering discipline.
• Student will need to have completed a minimum of 1-full years of course work with preference for individuals who have completed 2-full years.
• Preference is a minimum 3.0 GPA in your academic field of study.
• Must have solid Microsoft Office skills, particularly in Excel.
• Ideal candidates will possess high initiative and drive, with a curiosity to perpetually learn and improve our business.
