Job summary

Pennsy Supply Inc, a CRH company, invites engineering students to intern in our Harrisburg area operations. The Mechanical Engineering Intern will spend 10–12 weeks rotating through departments, traveling between plants to gain hands-on experience and contribute to various projects.

Ideal candidates are mechanical engineering majors, currently sophomores or juniors, with a 3.0 GPA or higher and strong skills in Word and Excel. Travel and safety training are part of the role.

Qualifications

• Mechanical Engineering major, current sophomore or junior.
• GPA 3.0 or higher desired.
• Excellent computer skills; proficient in Word and Excel.

Responsibilities

• Adhere to safety rules and regulations (MSHA/OSHA/DOT).
• Conduct daily safety assignments (area inspections, pre-shifts, JSA’s).
• Learn capital project planning, budgeting, and management.
• Understand maintenance activities and process improvement.
• Learn mine planning process concepts.
• Assist plant/operators on maintenance tasks.
• Review KPIs, production reports, and dispatching components.
• Support Customer Support and Operations teams as needed.

Position Overview

The Mechanical Engineering Intern will work for approximately 10-12 weeks at Pennsy Supply, Inc. to integrate the education received from a college and/or university to the company’s objectives. The Intern will be exposed to a variety of departments and work environments during the internship. This will involve travel to and between various plants in Pennsy Supply’s Harrisburg, PA market region.

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)

Adhere to and follow all safety rules and regulations of MSHA/OSHA/DOT and Pennsy Supply, Inc.

Conduct daily safety assignments (area inspections, pre-shifts, JSA’s, TRACK, etc)

Work with Operations staff to review and learn the following:

Capital project planning, budgeting, and management

Maintenance activities and process improvement

Mine overview and explanation of the mine planning process

May briefly train as a ground person, equipment operator and/or plant operator

May briefly assist on the plant maintenance crew

Understand components of preventative and predictive maintenance programs

Process overview, KPI's, production reports, dispatching component

Quality control issues, including understanding of sampling and testing procedures

To a lesser extent, work with the Customer Support and Operations departments to review the following:

Spend time with Construction Manager, Construction Superintendent and Sales Representative

Dispatch – customer service-related issues and work order process

Delivery of product – aggregate, asphalt and/or concrete

Financial reports related to the department

Understand how plant operations affect customers

Regular and timely attendance

Must be willing and able to travel to plant locations.

Other duties as assigned

Education/Experience

Mechanical Engineering major, current sophomore or junior.

Desired 3.0 GPA or higher.

Excellent computer skills and proficient in Word and Excel.

General Requirements

Mobility to attend various meetings and events at offsite locations.

Must submit to a drug screen and criminal background check

Ability to travel with a current driver’s license.
