Qualifications

  • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering is required.
  • 3–5 years in chemical/plant industry.
  • Experience with maintenance, reliability, and turnaround activities.
  • Proficiency with SAP, Microsoft Office, and process simulation tools like Aspen.
  • Strong written and verbal communication; ability to work with diverse teams.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure all activities conform to laws, regulations, contractual requirements, and the project management manual.
  • Prioritize the health and safety of personnel, the environment, and equipment.
  • Own and review packages for heat exchangers, pressure vessels, boilers, freshwater generators, and gas compressors.
  • Comment on mechanical design regarding operability, functionality, accessibility, and maintainability.
  • Review certifying authority comments on mechanical systems and equipment design.
  • Serve as SME for equipment failures and repair techniques during root‑cause investigations.
  • Collaborate with the Maintenance Technologist to integrate technical and field experience into troubleshooting and repair plans.
  • Provide technical expertise on troubleshooting failures, repairs, and evaluating if equipment meets process performance and reliability.
  • Ensure work requests include engineering input on repair details; provide onsite/off-site support for deviations.
  • Request equipment, materials, and consumables as needed within authority limits.
  • Propose and implement cost-effective solutions in design, procurement, installation, and maintenance of mechanical equipment.
  • Partner with the Reliability Engineer to develop facility and equipment maintenance strategies.
  • Provide input on work order scope during turnaround for critical equipment.
  • Support specification, identification, and purchasing of required parts.
  • Plan, coordinate, and supervise revamp and maintenance activities.
  • Participate in the design of a material codification system.
  • Perform any other duties necessary to meet business needs.

Job description

The Mechanical Engineer will provide mechanical maintenance engineering technical expertise to plant Operations and Maintenance personnel, troubleshooting failures, repairs, and ensuring equipment is in functional condition while contributing to facility and equipment strategies for both rotating and fixed equipment.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure all activities are carried out in conformance with laws, regulations, contractual requirements, and the project management manual.
  • Prioritize the health and safety of personnel, the natural and working environment, and equipment.
  • Own and review packages for heat exchangers, pressure vessels, boilers, freshwater generators, and gas compressors (centrifugal and reciprocating).
  • Comment on mechanical design regarding operability, functionality, accessibility, and maintainability to meet regulatory and contractual requirements.
  • Review and resolve certifying authority comments on mechanical systems and equipment design.
  • Serve as Subject Matter Expert (SME) for equipment failures and repair techniques during root‑cause investigations.
  • Collaborate with the Maintenance Technologist to integrate technical and field experience into troubleshooting, procedure development, and repair plans.
  • Provide technical expertise on troubleshooting failures, repairs, and evaluating if equipment meets intended process performance and reliability.
  • Ensure that work requests for critical equipment include engineering input on repair details such as clearances, tolerances, materials of construction, and welding procedures; provide onsite/off‑site support for deviations if necessary.
  • Request equipment, materials, and consumables as needed within authority limits.
  • Propose and implement cost‑effective solutions in design, procurement, installation, and maintenance of mechanical equipment.
  • Partner with the Reliability Engineer to develop facility and equipment maintenance strategies.
  • Provide input on work order scope and development during turnaround work, especially for critical equipment requiring engineering review.
  • Support specification, identification, and purchasing of required parts.
  • Plan, coordinate, and supervise revamp and maintenance activities.
  • Participate in the design of a material codification system.
  • Perform any other duties necessary to meet business needs.
Qualifications
  • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering required.
  • Minimum 3–5 years of experience in a chemical/plant industry (engineering levels: II – 3–5 yrs; III – 5–7 yrs; Senior – 7+ yrs).
  • Knowledge and experience in an ethylene oxide/ethylene glycol plant preferred.
  • Experience with maintenance, reliability, and turnaround activities required.
  • Proficiency with SAP, Internet, Email, Microsoft Office, and process simulation tools such as Aspen.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals at all levels of an organization and manage multiple priorities.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and analyze complex technical issues to develop engineering solutions.
