Job description

Position Purpose:

The Mechanical Engineer in the Atmospheric Robotics function typically: is a systems engineering design engineering authority (DEA) for wafer handling robot subsystems within a variety of semiconductor equipment. S/he determines hardware and software requirements, performs detailed analysis, and also defines working parameters for hardware/software compatibility. Specifies, coordinates, and resolves interface issues between these various automation modules and subsystems such as material handling robotics, loadlocks, loadports, system control software, etc.

This intermediate position develops and executes robotics systems engineering projects of difficult scope under general direction. They will need to: translate internal customer needs into specific technical requirements for semiconductor wafer handling robot; analyze, communicate and negotiate requirements; manage product development to ensure OEM robot vendors meet specific requirements on time and at cost. Author hardware and software specifications. Perform hardware and software testing to ensure robots meet agreed requirements, including hands-on work such as building test stands, developing and running test programs and safely operating complex industrial equipment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Support automation systems engineering projects that have a substantial mix of electrical, mechanical, and software design, and understand the underlying system implications.
  2. Leverage robotics subject matter expertise in performing systems engineering analyses in support of semiconductor equipment product development.
  3. Leverage robotics subject matter expertise and interpersonal skills to evaluate & negotiate requirements from internal and external customers with consideration for feasibility, technical risks, and operational factors.
  4. Manage projects consisting of software and mechanical scope to ensure OEM robot vendors meet specific requirements on time and at cost.
  5. Perform software and mechanical testing and qualification of OEM supplied robots. Design & build physical test stands and develop testing software in support of qualification activities.
  6. Maintain accountability for quality and reliability requirements throughout the product lifecycle. Drive closure of quality problems using structured methodologies.
  7. Evaluate mechanical, software & electrical designs within material handling robots, and similar mechanisms, with respect to requirements.
  8. Support System Integration and troubleshooting of automation modules during the manufacturing and application lab (cleanroom) operations of new product designs.
