Job summary

Leonardo DRS in High Ridge, MO, is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to support HVAC&R product designs for commercial and defense markets, including heat exchangers, air conditioning, refrigeration, and air handling systems.

You will develop new products, support legacy designs, select components, create documentation, and support testing, qualification, and production activities. The role emphasizes project leadership and collaboration across teams.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering and a minimum of two years experience.
  • Engineering or design experience with mechanical equipment, assemblies and components including machined components, welded structures and sheet metal parts.
  • Comfortable and competent writing and creating technical documentation.
  • Competent using MS Office (Word, Excel, Visio, Project, and PowerPoint)

Responsibilities

  • Support projects for mechanical equipment, including heat exchangers, air conditioning, refrigeration, and air handling systems.
  • Develop manufacturing drawings and BOMs for fabrication and delivery of products and prototypes.
  • Engineer HVAC&R equipment sizing and performance predictions with mechanical analysis, fluids, or related fields.
  • Develop technical documentation, manuals, and procedures.
  • Evaluate design approaches to meet production requirements for new or improved products or services.
  • Lead projects with budget, schedule and stakeholder communication.
  • Support design-to-cost and design-for-manufacture requirements for programs.
  • Review customer specifications for bids and develop compliant designs for product development.
  • Support testing, qualification, documentation and analysis of prototypes, products, systems or subsystems.

Job Summary

Mechanical Engineer position responsible for supporting projects and developing a variety of HVAC&R product designs for both commercial and defense markets including heat exchangers, air conditioning, refrigeration, and air handling systems. This position will be responsible for development of new products, supporting legacy products; sizing and selecting components; creating associated documentation; and supporting product testing, qualification, and production.

Job Responsibilities
  • Support projects for the development and support of mechanical equipment, especially heat exchangers, air conditioning, refrigeration, and air handling systems
  • Support development of product designs, manufacturing drawings, bills of material and associated supporting documentation for fabrication and delivery of products and prototypes
  • Engineering of HVAC&R equipment for component sizing, selection, and performance predictions, which may include mechanical analysis, aerodynamics/fluids, thermal, fluid systems, mechanical packaging, or others
  • Development of technical documentation, manuals, and procedures
  • Evaluate and recommend design approaches to meet production requirements for new or improved products or services
  • Able to manage engineering projects including budget, schedule and stakeholder communication (both internal and customer)
  • Able to lead projects for development and support of mechanical equipment, heat exchangers, air conditioning, refrigeration, and air handling systems
  • Support the program design to cost and design for manufacture requirements
  • Investigate solutions to product or process problems
  • Specify and evaluate supplier components, subsystems, and services
  • Review customer specifications and requirements in support of bids and proposals and develop compliant designs for product development
  • Support testing, qualification, documentation and analysis of prototypes, products, systems or subsystems
Job Responsibilities Part II
  • Responsible for completion of projects on time, within budget and following design specifications
  • Provide budget, cost and schedule input for status of project assignments
  • Work with manufacturing and cross functional teams to achieve project cost and manufacturing efficiency goals
  • Communicate clearly (written and oral) with other company personnel and customers
  • Contribute to team efforts by accomplishing results in a cooperative and supportive manner
  • Attend appropriate engineering, customer, or business meetings
  • Maintain and develop technical knowledge by conferring with technical specialists and suppliers; attending educational workshops; and reviewing professional publications
  • Ability to work independently under supervision of others while reporting progress and status
  • Support, communicate, reinforce, and defend the mission, values and culture of the organization
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related technical field and a minimum of two years experience

Additional Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with HVAC&R (air conditioning, air handling and refrigeration) equipment and suppliers.
  • Experience designing and drafting with PTC CREO, AutoCAD Mechanical 2D or similar CAD/PLM platforms
  • Basic experience creating drawings (drafting) following ASME Y14.100 and associated documentation such as bill of materials
  • Understanding of ASHRAE test requirements and certification of Air Conditioning, Refrigeration, and Air Handling systems
  • Experience conducting product design/technology reviews with customers and capturing product needs
  • Experience designing defense products, especially for the US Navy
