Job summary

Entegris is seeking a Mechanical Engineer II at our San Luis Obispo, CA location to design and improve pressure vessels used in high-purity semiconductor purification systems. You will collaborate with R&D, Manufacturing, and Quality to deliver reliable products, perform stress analyses, and create detailed documentation.

Responsibilities include leading POU vessel designs, selecting filtration media, and ensuring compliance with ASME codes.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, or related discipline.
• 2–4 years of professional engineering experience with pressure equipment or vessel design.
• Experience with 3D modeling and 2D drafting using SolidWorks or CAD; PLM systems are a plus.
• Deep understanding of mechanical assembly techniques, welding design, weld callouts, and bolted joints.
• Ability to perform manual and software-assisted stress calculations for pressurized equipment.
• Familiarity with ASME Section VIII or similar pressure vessel codes preferred.
• Experience with filtration media, fluid dynamics, or high-purity gas/liquid systems is advantageous.
• Hands-on mindset with troubleshooting manufacturing and production issues.
• Excellent verbal and written communication for cross-functional collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Lead the mechanical design of Point of Use (POU) pressure vessels for high-purity media.
• Partner with R&D to determine media types, form factors, and geometry for new purifiers.
• Evaluate and select filtration media to meet pressure drop and flow requirements.
• Design robust joints, focusing on welding specifications and bolted assemblies.
• Spend time on the manufacturing floor to learn orbital and lathe welding.
• Perform stress calculations to ensure safety and compliance with standards (ASME BPVC).
• Create 3D models, 2D drawings, and BOMs using SolidWorks.
• Act as liaison to manufacturing, troubleshooting production issues for on-time delivery.
• Participate in design reviews, process improvements, and change control for manufacturability.
• Maintain a healthy and safe work environment for all employees.
