Job summary

Actalent in Southern California is seeking a Mechanical Engineer II to design, analyze, integrate, and test advanced mechanical systems for defense, space, and nuclear applications. You’ll own hardware through full lifecycle, from concept to deployment, with exposure to naval shipboard, satellite structures, high‑power thermal management, and reactor components.

The role emphasizes hands‑on hardware, collaboration with electrical, systems, software, quality, supply chain and manufacturing teams,

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (or related) with 2+ yrs progressive mechanical engineering exp.

Responsibilities

  • Design mechanical components, assemblies and subsystems
  • Produce ASME Y14.5 GD&T-compliant drawings
  • Perform tolerance stack‑up analyses for complex assemblies
  • Select materials, finishes, fasteners, and thermal interface materials
  • Support DFM/DFx for producibility and integration
  • Perform hand calcs and FEA (ANSYS, Femap/Nastran)
  • Conduct thermal analyses for liquid- and conduction-cooled hardware
  • Support military/industry standard qualifications (MIL-STD-810, MIL-S-901D, etc.)
  • Document results in formal reports and participate in design reviews
  • Collaborate with electrical, systems, software, quality, supply chain and manufacturing
  • Generate test plans, procedures and fixtures; troubleshoot and root-cause issues
  • Travel to field/test sites as required
  • Contribute to design reviews (SRR, PDR, CDR, TRR)
  • Maintain engineering docs: specs, ICDs, ECOs, NCRs
  • Ensure AS9100, ANSI/ESD S20.20 compliance
