Job summary

Focal Point, a Chicago-based architectural lighting manufacturer and Legrand subsidiary, seeks a Mechanical Engineer II to lead luminaire development from concept to production, including prototyping, validation, and regulatory testing. You will work with manufacturing and cross-functional teams to meet timeline and cost targets under the Custom Development program.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from an accredited program.
• 3-5 years of professional engineering work experience.
• Experienced knowledge of 3D CAD software. SolidWorks preferred.
• Working knowledge of GD&T.
• Demonstrated success working in cross-functional teams through projects or organizations.

Responsibilities

• Lead projects to develop products that meet or exceed customer requirements and product targets.
• Influence, review, and provide input to your peer's designs, ensuring best practices are followed and lessons learned are incorporated in future projects.
• Apply creative thinking and analysis to develop unique, innovative concepts.
• Analyze risks and root out issues early in the design process, using various internal Focal Point resources, as needed.
• Collaborate with regulatory and warranty teams as needed.
• Assemble prototype designs, create installation spaces, and install test luminaires, when required.
• Utilize a hands-on approach to product design, assembling prototype designs, creating demonstration spaces, and working closely with manufacturing.
• Establish timeline commitments and coordinate communication updates to all areas of the business.
• Maintain ownership of complete project deliverables, including design documentation, ordering system setup, production documentation, sales tools, cost model, etc.
• Simultaneously support multiple projects in various phases of development.
