Job summary

United States Digital Space LLC is seeking a Mechanical Engineer II to join the Continuous Improvement Team in Boston, MA. You will design, prototype, and test complex mechanical components for high-volume production, focusing on reliability and manufacturability while collaborating with Electrical, Operations, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, and Quality teams.

You’ll lead design decisions, generate technical documentation, and work with global suppliers and contract manufacturers to validate

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in the design of complex mechanical products, preferably for consumer electronics, wearables, or medical devices.
  • Experience with SolidWorks CAD and tolerance analysis, configuration management, and applying DFx/DfM feedback

Responsibilities

  • Own critical parts of current generation hardware products.
  • Design, prototype, and test complex mechanical components around microelectronics, meeting stringent technical, performance, and industrial design requirements to guide projects from concept through manufacturing release.
  • Develop and present multiple design solutions for novel and complex technical challenges, articulating them clearly to cross-functional teams and documenting design process and specifications thoroughly.
  • Generate technical documentation such as 3D files, 2D drawings, BOMs, and ECOs following product development cycle timeline.
  • Communicate engineering requests and conduct DfM reviews to vendors and contract manufacturers as the product development cycle progresses.
  • Own and drive second sourcing initiatives for mechanical components and assemblies to diversify the supply base and reduce manufacturing risk.
  • Support planning and execution of verification and validation plans, leveraging DOE methodologies to drive understanding, insights, and results that improve product quality, performance, and manufacturability.
  • Perform root-cause analysis and implement design improvements for quality, reliability, and performance enhancements.
  • Collaborate with senior engineers to evaluate new technologies and manufacturing methods.
  • Up to 20% travel to contract manufacturers and suppliers internationally.
