Job summary

Form Energy, located at its Weirton, WV facility, is seeking an Advanced Product Development engineer to design, prototype, and validate the next generation of iron-air battery systems. Qualifications

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field; Bachelor's with 1+ year design experience.
  • Experience using CAD to design parts and assemblies.
  • Experience with prototyping techniques in a lab.
  • Ability to write, execute and analyze test plans to inform decisions.
  • Strong fundamentals in heat transfer, fluid dynamics and mechanics.

Responsibilities

  • Lead hands-on prototyping and verification testing of subsystem designs.
  • Drive instrumentation, data collection and data analysis for system-level validation builds.
  • Own design of components and assemblies for volume manufacturing.
  • Run and analyze trials to inform specs and future design direction.

Role Description

Form's Advanced Product Development team is responsible for architecting and designing the next generation of our iron-air battery system - the cell, module, pack, and the support systems that keep them running reliably for decades in the field. We work ahead of our production programs, translating breakthrough electrochemistry and system requirements into mechanical designs that can scale to high-volume manufacturing.

What you'll do:
  • Lead hands-on prototyping and verification testing of subsystem designs.
  • Drive instrumentation, data collection and data analysis for system-level validation builds.
  • Own design of components and assemblies for volume manufacturing.
  • Run and analyze trials to inform specs and future design direction.
  • Execute ambitious product development processes on tight timelines.
What you'll bring:
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field; Bachelor's with 1+ years experience in mechanical design, or Master's with research or professional engineering experience.
  • Experienced using CAD to design parts and assemblies.
  • Exposure to writing, executing and analyzing test plans to make data-driven decisions.
  • Experience with prototyping techniques and working in a lab environment.
  • Strong heat transfer, fluid dynamics and mechanics fundamentals.
Where you'll work:

This role is based at Form Factory 1 in Weirton, WV-an easy commute from the city of Pittsburgh, PA. This 550,000-square-foot facility is our hub for high-volume battery production and a leader in the new era of American energy manufacturing. Relocation assistance is available.
