Job summary

Professional Project Services Inc. (Pro2Serve) has an opportunity in Knoxville, TN for an Electrical Engineer II (Direct Hire) with 3–6 years of progressive design experience in mechanical engineering for facility projects. The role emphasizes piping, HVAC, plumbing, and layout design, with familiarity with codes and standards and civil/structural collaboration.

Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering is required; a Master’s is a plus. EIT is required; PE is a plus.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• Master’s Degree in Engineering is plus.
• Must have an EIT License.
• PE is a plus.
• Must understand codes and standards: ASME, ASHRAE, SMACNA, NFPA, IBC and IPC.
• Knowledge of materials for construction and compatibility with service conditions.
• Familiar with piping design: layout, size, components, pressure ratings, expansion, valve selection; ANSI/ASME B31 knowledge a plus.
• Familiar with HVAC for process flow diagrams, equipment layout, control systems (AHUs, Chillers, VAVs).
• Familiar with plumbing system design and codes.
• Progressive experience in Mechanical Engineering.
• Knowledge of life cycle cost analyses for energy systems.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD / Microstation and MS Office; other dept software.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Perform mechanical design for piping and facility systems.
• Develop process flow diagrams and equipment layouts (HVAC, piping, plumbing).
• Ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards for mechanical design.
• Apply knowledge of materials and construction in project work.
• Create and review drawings using AutoCAD or Microstation.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and document analyses and recommendations.

Job Description

Experience as a mechanical engineer as demonstrated by 3-6 years of progressive design and developmental projects with facility design experience.

Design experience should include the following:

• Mechanical wet and dry piping systems.
  • Examples include heating and chilled water hydronic piping systems, natural gas piping systems, domestic water and waste water piping systems, steam and condensate piping systems, compressed air systems, and mechanical system controls, etc.
• Facilities Layout

• Nuclear experience is a plus

Job Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.

Master’s Degree in Engineering is plus.

Must have an EIT License.

PE is a plus.

Must have understanding of codes and standards applicable to mechanical design including but not limited to; ASME, ASHRAE, SMACNA, NFPA, and the IBC and IPC code set.

Must have fundamental knowledge of materials of construction in regard to material compatibility with various service conditions for equipment and piping.

Must be familiar with piping design including layout, pipe size determination, piping components, pressure ratings, expansion loops, valve selection, simple thermal stress and expansion problems. Working knowledge of ANSI/ASME B31 Piping Codes a plus.

Familiar with HVAC - in developing process flow diagrams, selection and layout of mechanical equipment and associated control systems for built-up AHUs, Chillers, VAV’s, etc.

Must be familiar with plumbing system design including working knowledge of common plumbing codes.

Requires progressive experience in Mechanical Engineering.

Knowledge of Federal requirements for life cycle cost analyses of energy consuming systems and building envelope alternatives

Possess working knowledge of computers and software such as AutoCAD and /or Microstation, Microsoft Office Suite and software used for specific technical applications within the department.

High level of verbal and written communication skills.
