Job summary

Pro2Serve is looking for a Mechanical Engineer III-Piping in Oak Ridge, TN. In this role, you'll develop process and piping diagrams and perform hands-on CAD using Microstation and AutoCAD. Mechanical Engineer III‑Piping (Contract Employment)

Job Description

Principal Areas of Responsibility: Piping.

Responsibilities
  • Develop process flow diagrams, piping and instrumentation diagrams, sequences of operations; select and layout mechanical equipment and associated piping systems; develop mechanical construction and equipment specifications, test and inspection plans, and system design descriptions.
  • Perform hands‑on CAD using Microstation and/or AutoCAD MEP and/or Revit platforms.
  • Conduct piping calculations with industry software (Arrow, Fathom, etc.).
  • Communicate with equipment vendors to determine requirements for applying products.
  • Perform field verification and take‑offs of existing systems for renovation projects.
  • Coordinate with other disciplines (fire protection, architectural, structural, electrical, etc.) for piping details.
  • Understand work planning and manage the design process to the available hours and schedule.
  • Generate calculations, design analyses, construction drawings, and specifications.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (Master's degree is a plus).
  • PE license or willing to obtain within one year of hire.
  • Minimum 8 years of progressive experience in mechanical engineering (piping).
  • Extensive knowledge of codes and standards: ICC, ASHRAE, ASME, IBC, IPC, NFPA, ASME B31.1, B31.3, B31.9, ASME Section VIII.
  • Experience with piping layout design, facilities layout, plumbing, and federal requirements for life‑cycle cost analysis of energy‑consuming systems and building envelope alternatives.
  • Knowledge of pipe line sizing calculations, sizing of pressure relief valves, and sizing of pressure control valves.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and/or Microstation, Microsoft Office, and other relevant technical software.
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills.
Duration

Contract employment for up to 12 months.

Federal Government Clearance

This position may require the ability to obtain, and maintain, a federal clearance. Clearance may involve background investigation and drug testing.
