Job summary

Sherman + Reilly, a Chattanooga-based manufacturer of tools for the electric utility industry, seeks a Mechanical Engineer I to join our on-site Engineering team. You’ll work with experienced engineers on product development and gain hands-on skills in a manufacturing setting.

This entry-level role requires a Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering and proficiency in SolidWorks. You’ll collaborate across functions, support prototypes, and help ensure production readiness in a growing, global

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• Proficiency in SolidWorks or equivalent 3D CAD software.
• Strong grounding in statics, mechanics of materials, manufacturing, and GD&T.
• Detail-oriented with strong documentation habits and accuracy.
• Collaborative, team-first mindset and clear communication.

Responsibilities

• Design mechanical components and assemblies in SolidWorks.
• Create and maintain drawings, BOMs, and documentation to S&R standards.
• Support prototype builds in on-site fabrication shop and participate in testing.
• Collaborate with Manufacturing, Purchasing, Quality, and Operations for production readiness.
• Manage engineering change documentation and maintain records in PDM.
• Build hands-on knowledge through shop time, field exposure, cross-functional engagement.
