Job summary

Legrand in Chicago, IL is seeking a Mechanical Engineer I to join the Custom Development team, developing and supporting luminaire designs from concept to production. You will prototype, validate, test regulatory compliance, and coordinate with manufacturing to meet timelines and costs.

Qualifications include 0–3 years of engineering experience, a BS in mechanical engineering, 3D CAD proficiency (SolidWorks preferred) and knowledge of GD&T.

Qualifications

• 0-3 years of professional engineering work experience.
• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from an accredited program.
• 3D CAD software expertise, SolidWorks preferred.
• Working knowledge of GD& T.
• Demonstrated success working in cross-functional teams through projects or organizations.

• Lead projects to develop products that meet or exceed customer requirements and product targets.
• Apply creative thinking and analysis to develop unique, innovative concepts.
• Analyze risks and root out issues early in the design process, using various internal resources as needed.
• Utilize a hands-on approach to product design, assembling prototype designs and working closely with manufacturing.
• Establish timeline commitments and coordinate communication updates to all areas of the business.
• Ownership of complete project deliverables, including design documentation, ordering system setup, production documentation, sales tools, cost model, etc.

Legrand has an exciting opportunity for a Mechanical Engineer I to join our Custom Development team in Chicago, IL! This is an exciting opportunity to be a key part of Focal Point’s engineering team, developing and supporting world-class luminaire designs. This position will lead the development of luminaires from concept to production, including prototyping, validation and regulatory testing, collaboration with manufacturing, and ordering system setup. Project management and organizational skills will be honed working on large scale projects with cross-functional teams to deliver on timeline and cost targets. This position reports to the Custom Engineering Development Leader.

Responsibilities
