Job summary

Legrand is seeking a Mechanical Engineer II to join the Starline Team in Canonsburg, PA. The role provides mechanical and electrical engineering support for Starline products, under moderate supervision, within defined guidelines.

Key tasks include design for manufacturability, testing, documentation, and cross- functional collaboration across production, quality, and purchasing to ensure high-quality, manufacturable solutions.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 2 years of engineering experience.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 10%.

  • Conceptualize and implement DFM/DFT/DFM/assembly and turnkey solutions.
  • Support commercialization and launch of Starline-designed products.
  • Perform design tasks and support customer-specific customizations.
  • Create drawings, instructions, specifications, manuals, and catalogs.
  • Collaborate with Production, Quality, and Purchasing to ensure manufacturability.
  • Provide guidance to drafters and review colleagues’ work.
  • Support labs and certifications; assist with product testing and compliance.

Legrand has an exciting opportunity for a Mechanical Engineer II to join the Starline Team in Canonsburg, PA. The Mechanical Engineer II provides electrical and mechanical engineering support for the commercialization, application, and customization of all Starline products. Works under moderate supervision with limited problem-solving responsibility while working under defined guidelines.

Responsibilities

What Will You Do?

  • Conceptualize and implement Design for Manufacturability (DFM) / Testing (DFT) / Assembly (DFA) and Full Turnkey solutions.
  • Support the engineering team tasked with the commercialization and launch of Starline-designed products.
  • Perform engineering design tasks and provide feedback in support of customer-specific customizations of Starline products.
  • Create technical documentation such as drawings, design instructions, purchasing specifications, O&M Manuals, installation instructions, work instructions, and product catalogs.
  • Support the integration of third-party products with Starline’s product offerings.
  • Conduct required testing, verify product performance, system integration, and compliance with applicable standards.
  • Partner with Production, Quality, and Purchasing staff to assure that products are manufacturable.
  • Help support improvements to Starline’s engineering information systems to ensure high-quality engineering information is provided to Production and other customers of this information.
  • Support the automation of design tasks.
  • Provide guidance to drafters to support project goals.
  • Review and check the work of others, including drafters and engineers.
  • Provide jobsite support.
  • Collaborate with certification laboratories such as VDE, as well as various international agencies. Provide laboratory testing support.
  • Participate in team-based initiatives within Starline.

Education

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in the engineering field.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally as required up to 10%.
  • Prior experience with Starline products is a plus.

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

  • Experience using AutoCAD, Inventor, and/or VAULT.
  • Experience with an ERP system (Syteline Preferred).
  • Exceptional organizational, time management, communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools.
  • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer satisfaction, including customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
  • Knowledge of project management processes and principles.
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing methodologies and techniques.

Personal Qualities/Behaviors

  • The performance of this position may occasionally require exposure to manufacturing areas where, in certain situations, the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses and mandatory hearing protection is required.
  • Able to sit for prolonged periods of time.
  • Able to lift and carry up to 25 lbs.
