Role Overview

Key Responsibilities

• Create design problems based on work you have performed, including loads, constraints, tolerances, and a reference answer used to evaluate model responses.
• Assess AI-written engineering analyses, including free-body diagrams, governing failure modes, and appropriate application of safety factors.
• Identify designs that may meet calculations but fail in real-world use because of manufacturability, assembly, wear, or thermal-expansion considerations.

Qualifications

Degree in mechanical engineering and professional mechanical design or analysis experience. Experience seeing a design you created get built and learning how it performed in practice. Clear written communication skills, as the work relies heavily on explaining engineering reasoning. Comfort working through ambiguous tasks and raising unclear instructions.

Work Terms

Remote, hourly independent-contractor work. Project invitations are sent to candidates whose background matches the assignment. Each invitation specifies the rate, expected hours, and client, and hiring decisions are made for that specific assignment. This listing itself does not make acceptance or rejection decisions. A matching opportunity may arise within a week or may take several months, depending on available projects.

Compensation

Past project rates have ranged from $70 to $125 per hour, with final rates set by project scope and depth.

Eligibility

Complete registration once to remain eligible for all qualified engineering networks. Completing the domain-expert interview and joining each network for which you qualify can improve matching opportunities.
