SaidGig is seeking a seasoned mechanical design expert to work as a remote independent contractor. You will leverage deep CAD knowledge to train AI systems by exploring complex assemblies and providing high-quality engineering input for improved AI reasoning.

Prior AI experience is not required, but strong design judgment is essential. The role emphasizes analyzing assemblies, formulating tough design questions, and delivering defensible, traceable answers from CAD models.

Qualifications

• 5+ years creating and overseeing multi-part mechanical assemblies, not just from drawings.
• Strong expertise in design intent, assembly reasoning and tolerance analysis (GD&T).
• Experience teaching, mentoring, or leading design reviews among engineering teams.

Role Overview

Apply deep mechanical design expertise to help train next-generation AI systems through complex CAD assembly exploration. You will provide high-quality, real-world engineering input that improves how AI models reason about mechanical design. Prior AI experience is not required.

Key Responsibilities

• Analyze multi-part mechanical assemblies to identify critical design decisions, constraints, and potential failure points.
• Create challenging technical questions that assess senior-level mechanical design judgment.
• Validate and document precise, defensible answers directly from CAD models with clear traceability.
• Review AI-generated responses, identify mechanical-reasoning errors, and recommend targeted improvements.
• Refine ambiguous, trivial, or unanswerable questions for clarity and precision.
• Document edge cases and areas of disagreement to support strict answer verification.
• Communicate findings and reasoning clearly in written and verbal form.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional experience creating and overseeing multi-part mechanical assemblies from concept, beyond working solely from existing drawings.
• Advanced proficiency with at least one major parametric CAD platform, including SolidWorks, Creo, NX, CATIA, Inventor, Fusion, Onshape, or Solid Edge.
• Strong expertise in design intent, assembly reasoning, mechanism and kinematic analysis, and GD&T and tolerance judgment.
• Experience teaching, mentoring, leading design reviews, or coaching engineering teams.
• Background in industrial machinery and automation, robotics, automotive and heavy equipment, aerospace and defense, medical devices, consumer products, or tooling and fixture design.
• Exceptional written English communication skills.
• Experience with FreeCAD, advanced GD&T and tolerance analysis, or formal design review leadership is a plus.

Work Terms

Remote independent contractor engagement.

Approximately 15 hours per week.

Work involves a customer project focused on complex CAD assemblies and AI advancement.

Compensation

$40 to $90 per hour.
