Job summary

The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join a multi-disciplined team at the Idaho Falls NRF site. You will interface with civil, structural, mechanical, and electrical engineers and provide technical knowledge for executing capital projects within the Naval Reactors Facility at INL.

You will work with project managers, construction oversight, and procurement staff on projects from under one year to several years and multi-million-dollar scopes, ensuring safety,

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related technical field with at least 9 years of experience, or higher degrees with proportionally fewer years.
  • Experience interfacing with engineers and construction subcontractors on capital projects.
  • Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team within NRF/NNL environments.

Responsibilities

Job Description

The Naval Nuclear Laboratory, Field Construction Engineering organization is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join a multi-disciplined group of civil, structural, mechanical, and electrical engineers to interface with system/ infrastructure engineers and architect engineering and construction subcontractors and provide technical knowledge for the execution of projects at the Naval Reactors Facility located on the Idaho National Laboratory site.

This role works within a project execution team environment with a Project Manager, Contract Administrator, Project Analyst, Construction Oversight personnel, and other Engineers to deliver projects in the construction portfolio ranging from short duration (<1yr) to multi-year, multi-million-dollar major capital improvement projects for the renovation of aging infrastructure and systems.

Required Combination Of Knowledge And Skill

Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical, engineering or science field and a minimum of 9 years of relevant experience; or Masters degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical, engineering or science field and a minimum of 7 years of relevant experience; or Doctorate degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical, engineering, science field and a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience; or Currently a Principal Reactor Training Engineer, Refueling Engineer, or Field (RPCO) Engineer at the Company.

Preferred Skills
  • Knowledge of infrastructure design and construction
  • Knowledge of industry and building trade practice, techniques, codes and standards
  • Experience with contracting construction services, ideally both at NRF and outside of NNL
  • Experience with construction project scoping, development, and execution
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products and computer aided design (CAD) drafting software
  • Able to work independently and handle multiple tasks concurrently
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills and ability to interact with all levels of personnel, management, subcontractors, and government oversight

Pay Range

$106,200.00 - $166,000.00 annually

Salary information provided is a general guideline only. Annual salary is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.

The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is operated for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) by Fluor Marine Propulsion, LLC (FMP), a wholly owned subsidiary of Fluor Corporation.
