Job summary

Naval Nuclear Laboratory is seeking a System Infrastructure Development Computer & Electrical Engineer to design RPIC test systems, plan projects, and lead improvements. The role blends hands-on lab work with office design documentation and software development.

You will work on software in MATLAB, Python, C/C++, and LabVIEW while collaborating with teams across locations and applying Agile Scrum where appropriate.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related technical, engineering or science field with a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience; or Master’s degree with 4 years; or Doctorate with 1 year; or Senior Reactor Training Engineer/Refueling Engineer/RPCO Engineer.

Job Description

The System Infrastructure Development (SID) Computer & Electrical Engineer has design responsibilities of Reactor Plant Instrumentation and Control (RPIC) test system software and hardware projects which support the existing fleet and next generation class of submarines. This work covers project planning, hardware & software design and integration, installation or modification of RPIC test systems based on stakeholder user stories and requirements. Team members perform a mix of hands-on work in the laboratory environment where systems are designed and tested as well as office-based work to develop design documentation and author software code. Additional responsibilities include leadership for new concepts and approaches, and process improvement initiatives.

Required Combination Of Knowledge And Skill

Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical, engineering or science field and a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience; or Masters degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical, engineering or science field and a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience; or Doctorate degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical, engineering or science field and a minimum of 1 year of relevant experience; or Currently a Senior Reactor Training Engineer, Refueling Engineer, or Field (RPCO) Engineer at the Company.

Preferred Skills
  • Ability to work with programming languages such as MATLAB, Python, C/C++, Fortran, or LabVIEW.
  • Ability to use drawing and design tools like AutoCAD or Microsoft Visio.
  • Understanding of embedded controller platforms, including Arduino, Raspberry Pi, and NI PXI/PXIe systems.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve equipment or software issues efficiently.
  • Experience working within an Agile Scrum development team.
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly and concisely.
  • Ability to build and maintain strong working relationships across teams and locations.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with others to complete projects on schedule.

Pay Range

$95,700.00 - $149,600.00 annually

Salary information provided is a general guideline only. Annual salary is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.

The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is operated for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) by Fluor Marine Propulsion, LLC (FMP), a wholly owned subsidiary of Fluor Corporation.
