Job summary

The Naval Nuclear Laboratory seeks a Mechanical Engineer to join the Submarine Core Design team. You will own analyses of complex components using ABAQUS and in-house codes, coordinating with stakeholders across disciplines to support naval propulsion and fleet reliability.

Ideal candidates have a degree in mechanical engineering (BS or higher) with 6+ years of relevant experience, or a higher degree with appropriate experience; U.S. citizenship is required for access to classified matters.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a related technical, engineering or science field with 6+ years of relevant experience; or Master's with 4 years; or Doctorate with 1 year.
• Currently a Senior Reactor Training Engineer, Refueling Engineer, or Field (RPCO) Engineer at the Company.
• BS Degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering; structural analysis experience; ABAQUS experience; ability to coordinate multi-disciplinary teams; experience with scripting languages.

Job Description

The Naval Nuclear Laboratory (NNL) is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join their team! Submarine Core Design offers unique opportunities to perform structural evaluations of complex components in support of the operating fleet. There is a large variety of different analyses performed in support of our hardware, which provides a significant learning opportunity. Analyses are performed using commercial codes, such as ABAQUS, in-house developed codes, and hand calculations. Also, there is a mix of long-term projects and quick turn-around tasks. The successful candidate will have ownership of their analyses and the necessary interactions with all stakeholders. There is a large amount of interfacing with other organizations, which will require the successful candidate to coordinate their efforts with these groups. This will also provide an increased opportunity for learning as it will expose the successful candidate to other disciples such as materials science and thermal-hydraulic performance. The unit actively supports the fleet through performance of work efforts such as continued use evaluations, service life extension requests, and updating design analyses.

Required Combination Of Knowledge And Skill

• Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical, engineering or science field and a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience; or
• Masters degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical, engineering or science field and a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience; or
• Doctorate degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical, engineering or science field and a minimum of 1 year of relevant experience; or
• Currently a Senior Reactor Training Engineer, Refueling Engineer, or Field (RPCO) Engineer at the Company.

Pay Range

$95,700.00 - $149,600.00 annually Salary information provided is a general guideline only. Annual salary is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.
