Job summary

Persona is seeking a Mechanical Engineer focused on Data Collection Hardware in Pensacola, FL. You will bridge human operators and humanoid kinematics, rapidly prototyping handheld data-collection tools and later tackling precision engineering for exoskeleton concepts.

You will train robot foundation models using high-quality, human-demonstrated data with force and tactile feedback, owning the physical hardware used by operators and iterating on agile UMI devices.

Qualifications

• B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a closely related field.
• 4+ years of advanced experience with 3D CAD modeling software (OnShape, SolidWorks, Fusion 360, Siemens NX).
• Proven experience designing multi-axis kinematic systems and selecting bearings.
• Experience integrating load cells and 6-axis force-torque sensors or tactile arrays.
• Demonstrated understanding of ergonomic principles and hardware that interfaces with human users.
• Hands-on experience with rapid prototyping (3D printing) and machining/welding.
• Experience designing enclosures and routing for delicate sensors and cable management.

Responsibilities

• Design, prototype, and assemble handheld UMI frames, grippers, and mounting rigs with load cells and sensors.
• Integrate high-resolution encoders and haptic motors into the data collection console.
• Shift between rapid in-house 3D printing and machining for hardware components.
• Apply DFM, DFA, and GD&T concepts to hardware design.
• Consider ergonomics to accommodate a wide percentile of operators during long sessions.
• Address IP ratings for outdoor equipment and thermal considerations.
