Job summary

Olin Chemicals is seeking a Mechanical Engineer Co-Op for Spring 2027 in Freeport, TX (also in Charleston, TN; Niagara Falls, NY; Plaquemine, LA). The role focuses on maintenance, reliability, and design of mechanical equipment to keep operations safe and efficient.

This is an on-site, full-time co-op with a $30/hour pay and a housing stipend available. As a student, you will lead multiple projects, gain hands-on experience with pumps, turbines, heat exchangers, and piping systems, and

Qualifications

• Enrolled in an accredited college or university majoring in an undergraduate Mechanical Engineering degree program.
• Must have an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale; official transcript required each term.
• Must have completed sophomore year (60 credits) prior to first rotation.
• Ability to work full-time (40 hours/week) during rotation; not eligible for virtual work.
• Must obtain TWIC and possess a valid US driver's license; Olin does not sponsor work authorization.

Responsibilities

• Lead a minimum of three hands-on projects throughout the term.
• Provide reliability leadership for rotating and fixed equipment (pumps, compressors, heat exchangers, piping, tanks).
• Support maintenance in developing preventative and predictive maintenance policies.
• Participate in plant turnarounds, update P&IDs, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.

This role can serve as the engineering representative on capital projects including justification, obtaining approval, ordering, and installation processes and equipment.

What You'll Do:

• Lead a minimum of three hands-on projects throughout the term, to be defined at the beginning of the rotation based on department and business need.
• Provide reliability leadership for rotating (pumps, compressors) and fixed (heat exchangers, piping systems, and process tanks) equipment
• Support maintenance in development of policies and procedures for preventative and predictive maintenance
• Participate in plant turnarounds, update P&IDs, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives

What You’ll Bring:

• Enrolled at an accredited college or university majoring in an undergraduate Mechanical Engineering degree program
• Must have an overall grade point average of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale at all times throughout your time at Olin. An official transcript will be required each term. Cumulative GPA on current institution transcript will be used in transfer college situations.
• Must have completed sophomore year (or 60 completed credit hours) prior to first rotation with Olin
• Ability to work full-time (40 hours a week during normal business hours) during rotation; Not eligible for virtual work
• Must be able to obtain a TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credential) and possess a valid US Driver's license*Olin does not provide any form of sponsorship.
