Job summary

5BY5 Engineers, LLC is seeking a versatile mechanical engineer for end-to-end MEP design across hospital and healthcare projects in the Kansas City metro area. You’ll join a small, collaborative team and directly influence project outcomes with hands-on design, calculations, and client communication.

The role requires familiarity with AutoCAD, Revit, and Bluebeam Revu, plus MS Office. Entry to mid-level candidates with PE or EIT credentials are encouraged to apply.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or architectural engineering.
  • Experience with AutoCAD, Revit, Bluebeam Revu and Microsoft Office.
  • Certification as an EIT by passing the FE Exam.

Responsibilities

  • Determine feasibility of systems and equipment types through research and communicate recommendations to clients.
  • Develop mechanical systems designs and perform calculations to produce construction drawings.
  • Review shop drawings for conformance to plans and specifications.

About the Role:

Are you looking for meaningful engineering work local to the Kansas City metro area? We’re looking for a versatile mechanical engineer who is experienced yet eager to learn different approaches to building system engineering. This role will be responsible for end-to-end mechanical engineering for some of the region’s most complex building system solutions. If you’re excited about working on projects across multiple market sectors and with various system types, this role is a great fit for you. As a member of 5BY5, you’ll be part of a highly collaborative environment on our small team where you can see the direct impact of your work.

Responsibilities:

  • During the MEP system design planning phase, determine feasibility of systems and equipment types through research and effectively communicate recommendations to clients.
  • Develop mechanical systems designs and perform appropriate calculations to produce drawings for construction purposes.
  • Ensure that shop drawings conform to plans and specifications through thorough review.
  • Work with the project construction team to ensure proper installation including answering questions, site observations, etc.

General Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with industry contractors, vendors, and clients.
  • Ensure high quality project delivery through project management.
  • Demonstrate excellent time management from determining project scope to project delivery.
  • Mentor other engineers as needed, providing technical guidance and oversight.
  • Be able to re-prioritize and adapt to fluctuating project and business needs.
  • Balance team collaboration with the ability to also work independently and routinely exercise good judgment and communication.
  • Other responsibilities as needed.

Qualifications:

Entry Level Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field of engineering (mechanical or architectural).
  • Experience with AutoCAD, Revit, Bluebeam Revu and Microsoft Office Products (Excel, Word, etc.) preferred.
  • Certification as an EIT by passing the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Exam.

Mid-level Qualifications:

  • Minimum 4 years of experience in MEP system engineering.
  • Professional Engineering (PE) License preferred.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, Bluebeam Revu and Microsoft Office Products (Excel, Word, etc.).
  • Knowledge and proficiency in engineering design, building codes, design standards, etc.

Required Skills:

Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, Bluebeam Revu and Microsoft Office Products (Excel, Word, etc.).

Preferred Skills:

Professional Engineering (PE) License preferred.
