Job summary

Switch is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to support the manufacturing and delivery of mechanical cooling equipment for data centers. You will evaluate supplier readiness, capacity, product quality, and opportunities to improve production. Travel 25–50% domestically to supplier sites and Switch locations.

The role requires collaboration with engineering, sourcing, construction, and supplier teams to drive quality and efficiency from initial engagement through sustained production.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent technical training and experience.
• 2–4 years of relevant professional experience in mechanical manufacturing, construction, or related engineering environment.
• Knowledge of mechanical cooling systems and related manufacturing/construction processes.

Responsibilities

• Support manufacturing partners that produce mechanical cooling equipment for Switch data centers.
• Review supplier readiness before engagement and during first-of-kind production.
• Visit supplier sites to assess production readiness, capacity, quality, and processes.
• Identify practical ways to improve manufacturing quality and efficiency.
• Visit Switch data center construction sites to review product quality and performance in the field.
• Participate in supplier reviews and track actions to address issues.
• Assist with escalations affecting capital projects and coordinate with suppliers and internal teams.

The Role: Mechanical Engineer

The Mechanical Engineer supports the manufacturing and delivery of mechanical cooling equipment used in Switch data centers. You will evaluate supplier readiness, manufacturing capacity, product quality, and opportunities to improve production. You will work with engineering, sourcing, suppliers, and construction teams from initial supplier engagement through sustained production. This role requires regular visits to supplier manufacturing sites and Switch construction locations, with 25–50% domestic travel.

What You’ll Do

Support manufacturing partners that produce mechanical cooling equipment for Switch data centers.

Review supplier readiness before engagement, during first-of-kind production, and through sustained manufacturing.

Visit supplier manufacturing sites to assess production readiness, capacity, quality, and manufacturing processes.

Identify practical ways to improve manufacturing quality, efficiency, and value.

Visit Switch data center construction sites to review product quality and performance in the field.

Participate in supplier business reviews and track actions needed to address execution or quality issues.

Support sourcing-related escalations affecting capital projects and work with suppliers, contractors, and internal teams to resolve issues.

Travel domestically 25–50% to supplier and Switch locations.

What You’ll Bring

2–4 years of relevant professional experience in mechanical manufacturing, construction, or a related engineering environment.

Working knowledge of mechanical cooling systems and the manufacturing or construction processes that support them.

Familiarity with lean manufacturing practices such as 5S, Kaizen, or Kanban.

Ability to organize multiple assignments, manage priorities, and make routine decisions with limited direction.

Clear written and verbal communication skills.

Working knowledge of common project, ERP, data analysis, and Microsoft Office tools.

Ability to travel domestically 25–50%.

A bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent relevant technical training and experience is preferred. Data center experience is helpful but not required.
