Design Hire is partnering with an exceptional client in Santa Cruz, CA seeking a Mechanical Engineer to transform project requirements into coordinated, technically sound designs from concept through construction.

You will lead HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection design across diverse building projects, use Autodesk Revit and energy modeling tools, and perform load calculations. Collaboration with experienced engineers and project teams is essential to deliver quality, practical solutions.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in Mechanical Engineering preferred or the ability to obtain licensure.
  • Strong knowledge of Technical Design principles and applicable ASHRAE Standards / Practices.
  • Experience applying Oregon Building Codes and/or California Building Codes to commercial or institutional projects.
  • Ability to review drawings, specifications, and project documents with strong attention to detail.
  • Proficiency with Drafting tools and document review software, including Bluebeam.
  • Ability to identify design issues, evaluate solutions, and communicate technical information clearly.
  • Strong teamwork and organizational skills with the ability to manage priorities across multiple projects.

Responsibilities

  • Lead HVAC System Design, Plumbing System Design, and Fire Protection System Design for a variety of building projects.
  • Develop MEP Design documents and technical deliverables using Autodesk Revit, Revit Modeling, and Building Systems Modeling.
  • Perform Engineering Calculations, including HVAC Load Calculations / Analysis, using Load Simulation Software such as Trane TRACE, Carrier HAP, and EnergyPro.
  • Support Design Coordination and Design Package Coordination with internal disciplines, architects, consultants, and project stakeholders.
  • Conduct Field Observation / Site Inspections, Construction / Site Visits, and QA/QC Reviews to help ensure designs are accurately implemented and meet project requirements.
