Job summary

Dover Corporation’s Microwave Products Group (MPG) in Salisbury, MD, seeks a design engineer to advance electro-mechanical packaging for RF devices. You will design high-performance mechanical assemblies for housing PCBs and components, and leverage CAD tools to solve thermal and stress challenges in aerospace/industrial applications.

Proficiency with AutoDesk Inventor/AutoCAD, PCB layout software, and IPC/MIL standards is expected, along with strong communication across engineering,

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering with 2+ years of relevant experience or MS with 3+ years of relevant experience.
• Experience in thermal and structural analysis and electro-mechanical packaging.

Responsibilities

• Design high-performance mechanical assemblies and support production.
• Design structures for housing PCBs and electronic components.
• Conduct thermal, mechanical stress, and vibration analyses of enclosures and PCBs.
• Perform air flow calculations for thermal management.
• Create PCB/PCBA designs per IPC-2221 and generate BOMs and drawings.
• Maintain documentation and assist root-cause analysis.

Position utilizes CAD to design, evaluate, and solve packaging, thermal, and stress challenges related to the assembly of electronic hardware within standard and custom designed enclosures.Job Duties/Responsibilities:Design high performance mechanical assemblies and support production of designs by production teamsDesign mechanical structures that house circuit card assemblies, electronic components, subassemblies, etc.Conduct the thermal, mechanical stress, and vibration analysis of electro-mechanical enclosures, heat exchange mechanisms, and printed circuit boards used on airborne, maritime, and ground-mobile RF equipmentConduct air flow calculations to determine mass flow (lb/min), volume flow, velocity, pressure drop, etc., with ambient, inlet, and outlet variables such as temperature, altitude, and pressureDesigns and develops PCB’s and PCBA’s IAW IPC-2221.Produce and maintain the documentation related to the mechanical aspects of a designDevelop detail drawings and Bills of Materials (BOM) for assigned product designsIncorporate engineering change ordersSupport research and investigation to determine the root cause analysis of mechanical failuresSupport new program proposal efforts including technical interchange with potential customersSupport and aid in the development of multiple mechanical designersKnowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Experience in thermal and structural analysis, and electro-mechanical packaging required, NASTRAN is preferredExperience using thermal and stress analysis software is requiredAutoDesk Inventor and AutoCAD preferredExperience with PCB layout software.RF Microwave experience and experience with passive and active circuitry.General knowledge of MIL-STD testing is requiredKnowledge of Airborne Mil environments preferredKnowledge of thermal and mechanical test equipment preferredKnowledge of IPC standards preferredMust have excellent written and verbal skillsMust be able to effectively and efficiently communicate with other departments, including manufacturing, quality and managementMust be able to communicate effectively with the customer (both internal and external), both in verbal and written formatsRequirements:Must be a US Person (US Citizen or permanent resident – green card holder)Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from an accredited four-year college or university and 2+ years of relevant experience OR MS in mechanical engineering from an accredited college or university and 3+ years of relevant experienceExperience with 3D CAD software requiredExperience with military standards and specifications requiredExperience with military electro-mechanical enclosure designs highly desiredISO and lean manufacturing experience highly desiredAbility to obtain a DoD security clearanceWorks from minimal documentation, written or verbal instructions, schematics, rough sketches, diagrams, and layouts.Pay Range: USD 85000 - 100000 AnnuallyThis position is eligible to earn a discretionary bonus based on performance metrics and other criteria outlined in our applicable bonus plan.We consider several job-related, non-discriminatory factors when determining the pay rate for a position, including, but not limited to, the position’s responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, a candidate’s education/training, the position’s location, and the key skills needed for the position.
