Job description

Akkodis is seeking a mechanical engineer for one of our clients in Phoenix, Arizona.

Rate Range: $65.00/hour to $75.00/hour; the rate may be negotiable based on experience, education, geographic location, and other factors.

The Senior Advanced Engineer is responsible for leading the technical evaluation and analysis of gas turbine engine components and systems in support of production, supplier transition/repositioning, value engineering, and quality initiatives. This role serves as a key technical resource supporting quality activities such as FAIRs, RMRAs, and quality notifications, as well as drawing interpretation, supplier substantiation processes, and design change activities.

The successful candidate will perform functional evaluations by identifying engine boundary conditions, design requirements, and system-level interactions across multiple engine models and component families. Responsibilities include conducting complex engineering analyses such as thermal, structural, vibration, fatigue, stress rupture, deflection, modal, and life assessments using finite element analysis (FEA) tools and engineering calculations.

This role requires close collaboration with manufacturing, quality, supply chain, suppliers, customers, chief engineers, and global engineering teams to resolve technical issues, support product integrity, and drive continuous improvement. The Senior Advanced Engineer will also contribute to process transformation initiatives aimed at improving product quality while reducing manufacturing costs and cycle times in a fast-paced Agile environment.

This position requires use of information or access to facilities subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and/or Export Administration Regulations (EAR). These regulations may limit access of controlled technologies: 1) to U.S. Persons, including U.S. Citizens, lawful permanent residents, and other narrow categories including refugees and asylees, or 2) to certain foreign nationals that have received an export license.

Requirements
  • Minimum of 5 years of engineering experience in aerospace, gas turbine engines, APUs, or a related industry.
  • Strong understanding of gas turbine engine systems and component-level design requirements.
  • Experience performing engineering evaluations and analyses of aerospace components, including thermal, structural, stress, fatigue, vibration, modal, deflection, stress rupture, and life assessments.
  • Proficiency with Finite Element Analysis (FEA) tools such as ANSYS or equivalent and experience using CAD modeling and engineering analysis tools.
  • Strong technical drawing interpretation skills, including Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Understanding of aerospace manufacturing processes and requirements, including casting, machining, welding, and heat treatment.
  • Knowledge of aerospace quality and production support processes, including inspection methodologies, FAIR reviews, RMRA reviews, and nonconformance investigations.
  • Familiarity with supplier substantiation processes and documentation, including ESA, STICS, STR, FTR, and SCS.
  • Experience supporting engineering change management processes, including ECNs, EMAs, deviations, and waivers.
  • Proven understanding and application of fatigue analysis, finite element analysis, and complex engineering calculations for gas turbine engine components.
  • Ability to prioritize work, adapt to changing priorities, and effectively support multiple assignments in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, written, and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with engineering teams, manufacturing organizations, suppliers, customers, and technical leadership.
Education
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related engineering discipline) required.
