About the Role

Salas O’Brien is recruiting mechanical design engineers and project managers for HVAC design, plumbing, and fire protection projects in existing buildings. Responsibilities include design, construction administration, and project management for building management system installations, HVAC systems & equipment retrofits, HVAC controls, and plumbing systems. Candidates will join a skilled team pursuing engineering excellence in existing buildings, with leadership opportunities and exposure to premier institutional clients.

Responsibilities include:

1. Perform heating and cooling load calculations using industry-standard software
2. Conduct field surveys to document existing conditions
3. Select and size HVAC and controls equipment
4. Develop HVAC sequences of operation
5. Prepare design drawings, specifications, and construction documents
6. Perform CAD work
7. Coordinate with vendors for product selections and quotes
8. Review contractor submittals and shop drawings
9. Conduct site surveys and support construction administration
10. Assist with other engineering tasks as needed

Required Skills:

1. Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from an accredited program
2. NY State Licensed Professional Engineer preferred
3. 4-7 years of relevant consulting experience
4. Proficiency in AutoCAD
5. Knowledge of NYC/NYS building, mechanical, and plumbing codes
6. Ability to work independently and in teams
7. Strong interpersonal and communication skills
8. Effective time and project management skills

• Salary Range: $90,000 - $125,000/year
• Travel: 10%
