Job description

Job Title: Mechanical Engineer / Mechanical Designer
Job Description

This role offers an opportunity for a Mechanical Engineer or Mechanical Designer with 2–10 years of experience to design HVAC and plumbing systems using AutoCAD 3D and some Revit within a small, collaborative firm. You will work on a broad range of commercial projects, contributing directly to mechanical designs while coordinating closely with a tight-knit team in a casual, office-based environment.

Responsibilities
  • Design HVAC and plumbing systems for commercial projects using AutoCAD 3D and Revit.

  • Develop mechanical designs for a variety of project types, including K–12 schools, telecom facilities, retail spaces, offices, medical and lab facilities, restaurants, multi-family buildings, infrastructure, ground-up developments, and tenant improvement projects.

  • Produce and update design drawings and documentation to meet project requirements and applicable standards.

  • Collaborate with internal team members to coordinate mechanical designs with other disciplines.

  • Communicate clearly and professionally with colleagues to ensure project goals, timelines, and design expectations are met.

  • Balance design and drafting responsibilities, taking on a meaningful portion of design work due to the small drafting department.

  • Support projects primarily in the Denver Metro area, with some work across and out of state.

  • Work independently with minimal supervision, taking ownership of tasks and proactively solving problems.

  • Ensure designs are practical, constructible, and aligned with project budgets and schedules.

  • Participate in a small-office culture, contributing positively to a friendly and collaborative work environment.

Essential Skills
  • 2–10 years of experience as a Mechanical Engineer or Mechanical Designer.

  • Proficiency with AutoCAD 3D for mechanical design and drafting.

  • Experience with Revit for mechanical design and coordination.

  • Hands-on experience designing HVAC systems.

  • Hands-on experience designing plumbing systems.

  • Ability and willingness to perform both design and drafting tasks, not solely drafting.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to work independently without extensive supervision or hand holding.

  • Experience working on commercial projects, with no focus on residential work.

  • Comfort working in a small office environment with a close-knit team.

Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience with industrial projects is acceptable and beneficial, provided there is interest in broader commercial project work.

  • Background in mechanical design or engineering for K–12 schools, telecom, retail, office, medical, lab, restaurant, multi-family, infrastructure, ground-up, or tenant improvement projects.

  • Interest in long-term growth within a firm, including potential ownership opportunities at senior levels.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects and adapt to a broad scope of work in a smaller firm setting.

  • Professional attitude aligned with market-average compensation expectations.

Work Environment

The role is fully in-office in a small, six-person workplace that offers a family-like, friendly atmosphere. The office maintains a casual dress code, with an expectation to dress appropriately for your day and client or site needs. Team members enjoy spending time together, including social activities such as sharing drinks and playing darts. The firm emphasizes independence and accountability, and does not provide extensive hand holding or close supervision. Projects are primarily located in the Denver Metro area, with some work across and out of state, and focus exclusively on commercial and related markets rather than residential. The organization offers full paid benefits for employees, with family coverage available at an additional cost, along with a health savings arrangement of approximately 3,500 for individuals. Paid time off benefits include six federal holidays plus Good Friday, a birthday holiday, and a half day after Thanksgiving. Compensation aligns with market averages and is consistent with experience and skills. The environment is collaborative yet self-directed, with opportunities for senior staff to pursue ownership within the firm.
