Job description

Job Description

As Design Engineer you will report to a member of the senior engineering staff and be a driven, self‑starter with the ability to apply traditional engineering analytic problem solving. You will focus on manufacturing processes, experimental methods, and a scientific/R&D approach, pushing creative possibilities to gain market share with new technologies, innovations, and products.

This position will support all technical needs—including operations, purchasing, brand, quality marketing, and NPD engineering—under the leadership of a Project Leader.

Responsibilities
  • Provide multiple design, manufacturing, and process options to engineering problems.
  • Work with a Project Leader to support all technical requests from operations, purchasing, brand, quality marketing, and NPD engineering.
  • Collaborate with marketing and reliability teams to develop comprehensive test plans that evaluate product specifications, performance, and reliability.
  • Work directly with the Milwaukee Tool Test Lab and technicians to conceptualize and develop new tests and improve existing ones.
  • Analyze data sets using practical and statistical methods.
  • Use mechanical design, stress analysis, material and heat‑treat selection, experimental techniques, statistical data analysis, and other engineering tools to develop theories and support conclusions.
  • Seek out and help qualify new suppliers, both international and domestic, for prototyping, development, NPD, and other supply‑chain needs.
  • Travel as required, including domestic and international trips.
  • Interact with existing suppliers, quality, and manufacturing teams to develop new products and processes and improve current ones.
  • Present technical data, findings, concepts, and other project‑related material to cross‑functional team members and management.
  • Create solid models, drawings, work instructions, standards, and other engineering documents to support any technical need.
  • Plan, prioritize, manage, and execute all engineering deliverables to meet project deadlines.
  • Participate in product development meetings and recommend design changes to enhance manufacturing and assembly.
  • Work with manufacturing to troubleshoot problems, upgrades, retrofits, set‑ups, methods development, and process parameter development.
  • Assume a lead role in small or sub‑sections of large projects as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • 1 to 3 years of experience in a related design field.
  • Knowledge of GD&T basics (usage and interpretation).
  • Basic assembly tolerance stack‑up analysis skills.
  • Proficiency in CAD (NX, CREO, SOLIDWORKS).
  • Drawing interpretation skills.
  • Experience with FEA.
  • Excellent ability and desire to work collaboratively within cross‑functional teams that include domestic and international members.
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and a continuous drive to learn.
  • Excellent problem‑solving skills and a hands‑on attitude.
  • Fluent in spoken and written English.
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Office programs, especially Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Willingness to learn skill sets outside the primary discipline.
  • Ability to travel 15% of the time, including domestic and international travel.
  • High interest in tools of the trade.
  • Proven experience in NPD processes.
