Job summary

Milwaukee Tool is seeking a Senior Design Engineer to lead mechanical design activities in mid/high complexity Power Tool NPD projects. You will serve as a technical resource, delivering data-driven recommendations and mentoring teammates.

You will apply first principles to develop models, perform stress analyses, and ensure robust, manufacturable solutions while collaborating across disciplines in a fast-paced environment. Travel up to 10% is expected.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering is required.
  • Minimum 5 years of machine design experience.
  • Strong proficiency in 3D CAD Modeling and mechanical analysis.
  • Travel up to 10% domestically or internationally.

Responsibilities

  • Lead technical resource on Power Tool NPD projects.
  • Provide clear technical information to cross-functional teammates.
  • Establish test regimens and data analysis to support design decisions.
  • Mentor engineering teammates and foster knowledge sharing.
  • Apply first principles to develop models and support decisions.
  • Perform mechanical stress analysis on linear and nonlinear systems.
  • Conduct root cause analysis to resolve technical challenges.
  • Execute tolerance analyses and consider system-level impacts.
  • Design and analyze gear-driven mechanisms and assess sound/ vibration.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary peers to address schedule, cost, and performance.
  • Plan early-stage development using empirical and analytical methods.
  • Operate effectively in a high-paced development environment.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Leadtechnical resource on mid/high complexity Power Tool New Product Development projects.
  • Provide cleartechnicalinformation tocross functional teammates,Project Leaders and Global Engineering teams, facilitating trade-off decisions.
  • Establish test regimens for components and assemblies within project scope with minimal guidance; deliver complete data analysis to support design recommendations.
  • Serve as a technical resource and provide consultation/mentorship toengineering and non-engineering teammates alike.
  • Apply first principles to create free body diagrams and develop static and/or dynamic models of new systems, leading the design analytically and supporting decision-making through rigorous engineering analysis.
  • Perform mechanical stress analysis on linear and non-linear systems.
  • Conduct root cause analysis to identify and resolve technical challenges.
  • Execute tolerance stack analyses (statistical and geometric preferred).
  • Design and analyze gear-driven systems and mechanisms, including sound and vibration/response of dynamic systems.
  • Demonstrate system-level thinkingbymaintaining a holistic view of how interdisciplinary design decisions affect user needs and project delivery.
  • Collaborate proactively with interdisciplinary peers to plan for and address issues that could impact schedule, cost, performance, or delivery of user needs.
  • Create and execute plans to inform early-stage development using both empirical and analytical methods; develop structured approaches to investigate root cause and troubleshoot designs under cost, schedule, performance, and other constraints.
  • Operate effectively in a high-paced and dynamic development environment.
  • Motivate and support learning—actively seek opportunities to learn and teach others about new discoveries and best practices.

What TOOLS you’ll bring with you:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • 5 years ofmachinedesignexperience,minimum
  • Strong proficiency in 3D CADModeling
  • Deep mechanical aptitude is required including a broad knowledge of engineering materials,machine component design,mechanical properties and an understanding of the manufacturing processes associated with these materials.
  • Willingness and abilityto travel up to 10% (travel includes Domestic and International).
  • Genuine interest in tools of the construction trades and a passion for innovative product development.
  • Strong motivation to grow, learn, and be challenged by the unknown
  • Experience in systems where closed-loop performance, accuracy, and repeatability are critical (e.g., robotics, automated assembly, precision torque/control systems).
  • Strong foundation in process control and applied statistics, including capability metrics, variation reduction, and experimental design.
  • Ability to think at the system levelby showing anunderstanding how hardware, controls, and user/environmental inputs interact to influence performance consistency.
