Overview

This position is within the Ghent Engineering group, supporting the Ghent generation plant processes and systems. Responsibilities include supporting operations and maintenance with problem identification, engineering analysis, and resolution activities. The role level (Engineer I, II, III, or Principal) will depend on the candidate's experience.

Responsibilities
  1. Identify opportunities for process improvements and suggest methods.
  2. Collect, correlate, and analyze data using established procedures.
  3. Perform detailed and routine engineering assignments involving calculations, tests, and analysis.
  4. Support operational and maintenance activities with engineering expertise.
  5. Prepare and present reports on engineering activities.
  6. Assist other engineers on large projects.
  7. Contribute to the development of engineering goals, budgets, and procedures.
  8. Ensure safety and environmental compliance in all activities.
  9. Review assignments for efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
  10. Provide insights into thermal performance and power plant processes, including combustion, boiler, turbine, and emissions optimization.
  11. Evaluate and improve unit heat rates and plant process optimization.
  12. Offer technical consulting and develop improvements for plant operations.
  13. Assist with KPI calculations, data management, and reporting.
  14. Supervise activities of coops, contractors, as needed.
  15. Perform other duties and adhere to policies and standards.
Qualifications
Required Education

ABET-accredited Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or engineering technology.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s in Chemical, Mechanical, or Environmental engineering preferred.
  • Strong problem-solving skills from a business perspective.
  • Experience with boiler and flue gas equipment, combustion control, and emissions optimization.
  • Project management experience including scheduling, budgeting, and regulatory compliance.
  • Knowledge of modeling software like PEPSE, Vista, or similar.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to explain technical issues to diverse audiences.
