Job summary

SMS group is seeking a Mechanical Engineer for our East Palestine, Ohio facility. You will work hands-on in design engineering, assembly, condition monitoring, and project management to support steel industry customers.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Associate Degree in Mechanical Engineering/Technology with relevant experience.
• Experience creating CAD models and drawings using Creo, SolidWorks, and AutoCAD.
• Strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills.
• Willingness to work hands-on and in an office environment.
• Ability to work across disciplines on equipment with mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic components.
• Attention to detail and excellent written/verbal communication.
• MS Office knowledge, especially Excel.
• Laser tracker and scanner CMM knowledge is a plus.
• CNC programming knowledge is a plus.
• Ability to work independently and in diverse teams.
• Willingness to learn new skills and take on additional responsibilities.
• Willingness to travel to customer sites. Travel less than 10%, overnight <5%.

Responsibilities

• Design, assemble, commission, and service equipment used in steel mills.
• Provide engineering support for equipment rebuilds in our workshop.
• Manage projects of varying size and scope.
• Develop and maintain job and project documentation including drawings and shop travelers.
• Perform testing and inspections on equipment sent to our shop for repair.
• Perform engineering calculations involving loads, stresses, deflections, fatigue, and structural integrity.
• Establish relationships with customers and serve as technical contact.

Mechanical Engineer

The Mechanical Engineer position is located in our East Palestine, Ohio facility. What you’ll do

• Work on the mechanical design, assembly, and commissioning, and service of various equipment used in steel mills.
• Provide engineering support for equipment rebuilds in our workshop.

• Perform engineering calculations and analyses involving loads, stresses, forces, deflections, fatigue, and structural integrity to support the design, validation, and optimization of mechanical systems and equipment.
• Establish relationships with our customers and serve as a point of contact for technical support.

What you’ll need

• A Bachelor’s or Associate Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology, with relevant experience through either past work history or internships and co‑ops. We will consider other backgrounds for the right candidate.
• Experience creating CAD models and drawings. We utilize Creo, SolidWorks, and AutoCAD
