Qualifications

• Experience with piping system installation, startup and commissioning.
• Ability to travel and work onsite during construction and commissioning.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a key member of the capital project team and support the Lead Mechanical Engineer throughout project execution.
• Develop and review piping layouts, equipment arrangements, piping specifications, and mechanical design packages in accordance with applicable codes, standards, and site requirements.
• Assist with establishing project design requirements and developing estimates for mechanical and piping disciplines.
• Evaluate piping designs to ensure they meet process, operability, maintainability, reliability, and safety objectives.
• Support the development of construction and fabrication packages, including engineering drawings, vendor documentation, and technical specifications.
• Assist with project engineering documentation, design reviews, and project closeout activities.
• Support project commissioning, equipment checkout, startup, and troubleshooting activities.
• Provide technical oversight and engineering support to mechanical and piping contractors.
• Collaborate with internal engineering teams, project stakeholders, contractors, vendors, and site personnel throughout the project.
• Ensure engineering activities are completed in accordance with applicable HSE requirements, engineering standards, codes, and project procedures.
• Provide technical support during different phases of the project, including design, construction, startup, and commissioning.

Job description

We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer to support a major capital project at a chemical facility in the Kansas City, MO area. This position will focus primarily on piping systems, mechanical engineering, and capital project execution, working closely with the Lead Mechanical Engineer and broader project team. The Mechanical Engineer will contribute to piping layouts, equipment arrangements, design packages, specifications, construction documentation, commissioning, and project closeout activities. The ideal candidate will bring extensive experience with mechanical engineering and industrial piping systems, along with a strong understanding of applicable mechanical codes, industry standards, and safety requirements. This role requires strong technical capabilities as well as the ability to collaborate effectively with engineering, construction, contractors, vendors, and leadership throughout the project lifecycle.

Mechanical Engineer Key Responsibilities

Mechanical Engineer Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• 12+ years of professional engineering experience.
• Broad knowledge of mechanical codes, engineering standards, and industrial piping standards.
• Expert-level experience with CAEPIPE pipe stress analysis software.
• Experience with piping system installation, startup, and commissioning.
• Strong understanding of mechanical and piping design principles within industrial or chemical facility environments.
• Ability to work collaboratively with individuals at all levels of an organization, including engineering teams, contractors, vendors, project leadership, and site personnel.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to listen, communicate technical information clearly, and work effectively with diverse project stakeholders.
• Strong commitment to HSE and engineering standards.
• Ability and willingness to travel to project and site locations as required.
• Ability to work onsite during construction, startup, and commissioning phases of the project.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with COMPRESS pressure vessel modeling software.
• Experience supporting capital projects within a chemical, industrial, manufacturing, or similar process facility.
• Located in or within reasonable proximity to the Kansas City or St. Louis area.
• Experience working through multiple phases of a capital project, from engineering design through construction, startup, and commissioning.
