Job summary

Insight Global is supporting a client on a large-scale capital project for industrial piping systems. The Mechanical Engineer (Piping Engineer) will design piping layouts, perform stress analyses, develop line lists, and prepare construction packages.

You will work with process, construction, and operations teams during relocation, startup, and commissioning, ensuring ASME piping code compliance and a strong safety culture.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering; Master’s preferred.
• 6+ years’ mechanical engineering experience focused on industrial piping.
• Experience supporting capital projects from design through startup and commissioning.
• Proficiency with pipe stress analysis software: CAEPIPE, CAESAR II, AutoPIPE, or equivalent.
• Familiarity with industry piping standards and codes.
• Experience reviewing piping layouts, isometrics, supports, and stress calculations.
• Background in chemical manufacturing, industrial processing, or similar environments.
• Experience supporting field installation, construction, and commissioning.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include developing piping layouts, specifications, line lists, and construction packages; performing pipe stress analysis using CAEPIPE, CAESAR II, AutoPIPE, or similar software; and ensuring compliance with ASME piping codes and industry standards. The engineer will collaborate with process, construction, and operations teams to support equipment relocations, evaluate piping system performance, resolve field issues, and oversee installation activities. This role will also provide technical guidance during startup and commissioning, review contractor deliverables, and promote a strong safety culture throughout all phases of the project. Travel to project sites will increase as the project progresses into construction and commissioning.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (Master's degree preferred).
• 6+ years of mechanical engineering experience with a strong emphasis on industrial piping systems.
• Experience supporting capital projects from design through startup and commissioning.
• Proficiency with pipe stress analysis software such as:

• Industry piping standards and codes
• Experience reviewing piping layouts, isometrics, support requirements, and stress calculations.

• Experience supporting field installation, construction, and commissioning activities.
• Ability to identify piping issues in the field and provide practical engineering solutions.

NICE TO HAVE SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

Strong understanding of:

• ASME B31.1
• ASME B31.3
• Experience with pressure vessel analysis and design using COMPRESS software.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license.
• Experience relocating or integrating large process equipment and vessels.
• Previous involvement with large-scale industrial capital projects valued at $10M+.
