  • Brainstorm and evaluate new solutions, weigh pros and cons, and narrow down options
  • Efficiently test ideas and designs: anything from back-of-the-envelope calculations to physical tests and multi-physics simulations
  • Design high-performance, reliable, easy-to-manufacture parts and assemblies, employing a variety of high-volume manufacturing processes
  • Create and review drawings and other part specifications
  • Manage bills of materials, cost and mass roll-ups, and engineering releases
  • Define manufacturing processes and inspection methods
  • Collaborate directly with part manufacturers to support prototypes and production

Desired Skills/Experience

  • Mechanical Design
    • Extensive experience in 3D Modeling software (e.g. Onshape, NX, Solidworks)
    • Detailed knowledge of 2D Drawing creation and GD&T

    • Experience with PCBA management such as Mechanical Control Outline generation
    • Working knowledge of Thermal Management techniques
    • Prototyping skills using 3D printing, machining, sheet metal bending, laser cutting, and general machine shop tools
  • Manufacturing Support
    • Experience communicating with component suppliers including Design for Manufacturing report review, First Article Inspection, and Part Production Approval Process
    • Ability to generate Work Instructions for electromechanical assemblies
    • Knowledge of Process Failure Modes and Effects Analysis
    • Extensive experience with Onsite Build Support at domestic and international contract manufacturing sites
  • Communication
    • Ability to generate detailed design documentation
    • Skilled at clear verbal and written communication including concise slide deck creation
    • Ability to give kind and direct feedback and receive feedback with an open mind
