Job Description :
We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer – Attributes to support the development of next-generation consumer appliances. This role will work within cross-functional teams to drive product innovation, with a strong focus on product craftsmanship, consumer perception, design quality, and performance.
The engineer will contribute throughout the product development lifecycle by translating consumer feedback and research into measurable product requirements, prototypes, testing methods, and detailed engineering designs.
Key Responsibilities
- Support attribute-focused projects throughout the product development process and build reusable technical knowledge.
- Review existing consumer research and synthesize findings to identify opportunities for product improvement.
- Partner with internal and external teams to conduct consumer research and translate insights into engineering requirements.
- Develop prototypes for product evaluation, modeling, and trade-space analysis.
- Support the development of product attribute prototypes, specifications, requirements, and performance targets, particularly related to product craftsmanship.
- Develop new testing methods for requirement verification and validation.
- Establish quantitative product requirements and engineering targets.
- Analyze testing and consumer feedback data to generate actionable product insights.
- Conduct product craftsmanship evaluations and competitive product reviews using established evaluation models.
- Correlate consumer feedback and perceptions with physical product characteristics and engineering design.
- Create 3D CAD models, engineering drawings, specifications, and tolerance analyses.
- Collaborate with technical, business, manufacturing, consumer insights, marketing, design, and analytics teams.
Experience with technical tools such as:
- SolidWorks
- Teamcenter
- JMP
- MATLAB
- LabVIEW
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Design Engineering, Plastics Engineering, or a related field.
- 3+ years of relevant professional engineering experience.
- Experience with user-centered design and connecting consumer perception with product attributes such as craftsmanship, performance, and usability.
- Proficiency in 3D CAD modeling, preferably SolidWorks.
- Experience with component and assembly design and engineering analysis.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in a new product development (NPD) environment.
- Ability to collaborate across consumer insights, marketing, engineering, design, and analytics functions.
- Knowledge of plastic part design and injection molding.
- Understanding of Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) principles.
- Familiarity with Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) and problem-solving methodologies, including:
- 8D
- A3
- Design of Experiments (DOE)
