Job description

Build the Mechanics Behind the Future of Manufacturing

At Creative 3D Technologies (C3DT), we’re pioneering the next era of manufacturing, where a single modular machine replaces much of a factory floor. Our award‑winning Single‑Cell 3D Printing system is built to do everything from precision work to heavy‑duty, multi‑material fabrication, all in one integrated platform.

To scale this tech into the real world, we’re assembling a Development Team focused on bringing technology to field‑deployable reliability. As our Mechanical Engineer, you’ll refine, upgrade, and ruggedize the hardware that powers our motion platforms. Your job? Turn working concepts into bulletproof, field‑ready machines.

The Role: Troubleshoot. Rethink. Reinforce.

You’ll be our go‑to mechanical specialist for resolving failures, designing mechanical upgrades, and making sure our platforms survive high‑demand use in production settings. You’ll work with the dev team to identify root causes, propose new designs, and directly implement your solutions from CAD to component sourcing to real‑world testing.

Whether it’s designing custom motion hardware, improving mechanical rigidity, or solving toolhead alignment across large‑format IDEX systems, your work will directly define our reliability in the field.

Location: Austin, TX (On‑Site)

Employment Type: Full‑Time

Salary: $75,000/year base + Bonus & Equity Eligibility

Department: Development

Responsibilities
  • Diagnose, redesign, and implement solutions for hardware failure modes in large‑format motion platforms.
  • Design custom assemblies, mounts, and structural frame, from early concept to prototype validation.
  • Perform mechanical analysis (stress, strain, vibration, tolerances) to improve lifetime performance.
  • Execute motion platform calibrations for systems using linear rails, belts, lead screws, or hybrid drives.
  • Support multi‑toolhead mechanics, including IDEX synchronization and toolhead repeatability.
  • Source custom or off‑the‑shelf parts from vendors to improve build reliability and serviceability.
  • Collaborate with electronics and firmware engineers to ensure mechanical‑electrical compatibility.
  • Operate in a hands‑on development environment, contributing directly to testing, assembly, and continuous iteration of live machines.
What You’ll Need
Hard Requirements
  • 3+ years working on large‑format 3D printer or related motion platform design, with deep exposure to failure diagnostics and mechanical refinement.
  • Expertise in linear motion systems, including belt and screw‑based gantries, rail guides (e.g., Hiwin), and motion accuracy tuning.
  • IDEX and multi‑gantry system design experience, especially regarding frame alignment, rigidity, and vibration damping.
  • Hands‑on experience operating or building machinery (e.g., CNCs, additive platforms) with strong mechanical intuition.
  • Strong CAD proficiency in SolidWorks (required); FreeCAD or Fusion 360 familiarity preferred.
  • Capable of running FEA simulations and tolerance analysis to ensure designs meet field demands.
  • U.S. Person status required (as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15) due to export control laws.
  • On‑site availability in Austin, TX (no remote option).
Preferred Skills
  • Familiarity with Klipper: kinematics, pressure advance, and vibration modeling.
  • Materials expertise, especially in engineering plastics and metals used for motion systems.
  • Certifications in GD&T, precision design, or motion system tuning.
  • Experience consulting with or auditing 3D printer OEMs or automation firms.
  • Comfortable communicating across disciplines and delivering actionable technical reports.
Why Join C3DT?

We’re not designing in theory, we’re building machines that move the world forward. At C3DT, you’ll take ownership of problems, prototype rapidly, and see your work ship to customers. This is a place for doers, not delegates.

Benefits
  • Equity options tied to performance KPIs
  • Salary increases tied to growth and contribution
  • PTO, paid holidays, and healthcare coverage
Equal Opportunity Employer
