Job summary

M.C. Dean seeks a Mechanical Systems Safety Engineer to oversee safe isolation of mechanical systems across construction, commissioning, maintenance, and operations on data center projects.

You will interpret P&IDs and translate them into real-world isolation practices in the field. You will support the Mechanical Energy Marshal, ensure two-person verification, and coordinate with electrical marshals, vendors, and clients to maintain zero-energy state and safe work conditions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
• Experience reading P&IDs and applying mechanical design docs in the field.
• Hands-on startup/commissioning of mechanical equipment.
• Experience identifying isolation risks and field walkdowns.
• Knowledge of hazardous energy sources and energy isolation concepts.
• Familiarity with OSHA 1910.147 Lockout-Tagout.
• Ability to read schematics and construction drawings.

Responsibilities

• Serve as on-site resource for mechanical energy isolation across systems.
• Review procedures and permits to ensure safe isolation practices.
• Work with teams to validate installation and performance of mechanical systems.
• Coordinate LOTO with electrical marshals and stakeholders.
• Oversee absence-of-energy checks and two-person verification.
• Lead pre-isolation and startup meetings for FoK startups.
• Review Commissioning Plan of Record related to energization.
• Develop risk assessments for partially isolated environments.
• Maintain field presence during major commissioning activities.
• Train employees in mechanical energy isolation processes.
• Attend commissioning and safety briefings.
