Job summary

HDR is seeking a Mechanical EIT/Designer for our Building Engineering Services group in Charlotte, NC or Raleigh, NC. This full-time role involves coordinating mechanical aspects of projects, performing engineering assignments, and preparing HVAC and plumbing construction documents.

Candidates should possess a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, with a Master's preferred. Strong computer skills and EIT certification are essential for this role.

Job description

Mechanical EIT / Designer – Building Engineering Services

We are looking for a Mechanical EIT/Designer to join our Building Engineering Services (BES) group in our Charlotte, NC or Raleigh, NC office.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate mechanical aspects of commercial or institutional projects.
• Perform routine mechanical engineering assignments requiring application of standard techniques and procedures.
• Write and edit mechanical specifications, and select mechanical systems and devices.
• Utilize engineering software to develop HVAC loads, energy analysis and mechanical equipment selections.
• Prepare construction documents for HVAC and plumbing design of buildings, including drawings, specifications and reports.
• Work independently on small projects, or assist more‑senior engineers on larger projects.
• Supervise work of Mechanical CAD Technicians, and coordinate design of assigned projects with architectural staff and other engineering disciplines.
• Take responsibility for construction contract administration requiring field inspections and conflict resolution.
• Perform other duties as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's degree in Architectural Engineering with Mechanical emphasis.
• Engineer in Training (EIT) certificate.
• Candidates without an EIT will have the title of "Mechanical Designer" and will be expected to obtain their EIT for career progression.
• HVAC and Plumbing facilities experience.
• Healthcare, Science and Technology and/or Civic facilities experience.
• Experience and/or interest in sustainable design/LEED desired but not required.
• Previous experience with an architectural/engineering or engineering consulting firm.
• Preference given to local candidates.

• Bachelor in Mechanical Engineering.
• Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office, Trane TRACE or similar software, and equipment selection software).
