Job summary

HDR, Inc. is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to coordinate mechanical aspects of commercial projects and perform routine assignments using standard techniques. You will write specifications, select systems, and develop HVAC loads with engineering software.

You will prepare construction documents for HVAC/ plumbing design, assist BIM documentation, and collaborate with architects and other engineers on various projects. Strong communication and detail orientation are essential.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor in Mechanical Engineering is required.
  • Master's degree in Architectural Engineering with Mechanical emphasis preferred.
  • EIT certification required or candidate will be Mechanical Designer.
  • Proficiency with CAD/BIM tools and engineering software.
  • Experience with HVAC systems design and energy analysis is desirable.

Job description

Responsibilities
  • Coordinate mechanical aspects of commercial or institutional projects
  • Perform routine mechanical engineering assignments requiring application of standard techniques and procedures
  • Write and edit mechanical specifications, and select mechanical systems and devices
  • Utilize engineering software to develop HVAC loads, energy analysis and size/select mechanical equipment
  • Prepare construction documents for HVAC and plumbing design of buildings, including drawings, specifications and reports
  • Assist in the development, production, and issuance of BIM documentation, using the necessary Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software
  • Work independently on small projects, and/or assist more-senior engineers on larger projects
  • Supervise work of Mechanical CAD Technicians, and coordinate design of assigned projects with architectural staff and other engineering disciplines
  • Take responsibility for construction contract administration requiring shop drawing review, request for information (RFI) review, field inspections, and conflict resolution
  • Perform other duties as needed
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Architectural Engineering with Mechanical emphasis
  • Engineer in Training (EIT) certificate. Candidates hired without their EIT will have the title of "Mechanical Designer" and will be expected to obtain their EIT for career progression.
  • Healthcare, Science and Technology and/or Civic facilities experience
  • Revit experience is required
  • Previous HVAC experience
  • Experience and/or interest in sustainable design/LEED desired but not required
  • Previous experience with an architectural/engineering or engineering consulting firm
  • Strong Communication skills, self-motivated, organized, attention to accuracy, detail oriented, flexible, and able to work both independently and with a project team to complete tasks
  • Teachable. Willingness to be mentored by senior-level mechanical engineers
  • Local candidates preferred

  • Bachelor in Mechanical Engineering
  • Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office, Trane TRACE or similar software, and equipment selection software)
