Job summary

Placements24 seeks a skilled Mechanical Drafter for a remote contract position. You will produce detailed 2D/3D CAD drawings and models from engineering designs, translating concepts into production-ready documentation with close collaboration from Mechanical Engineers.

The ideal candidate has strong CAD proficiency (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Inventor), GD&T knowledge, and the ability to work independently in a remote setting across multiple projects for clients in SA.

Qualifications

• Diploma or Certificate in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Drafting, or a related field.
• Proven experience as a Mechanical Drafter or CAD Technician.
• Proficiency in 2D/3D CAD software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Inventor).
• Knowledge of GD&T.

Responsibilities

• Create and modify 2D and 3D CAD models and technical drawings based on engineering markups and specifications.
• Prepare detailed drawings for manufacturing, assembly, and installation.
• Ensure all drawings adhere to company drafting standards and industry best practices (ASME, ISO).
• Generate Bills of Materials (BOMs) and parts lists from CAD models.
• Assist engineers in performing design reviews by providing drawing-related input.
• Maintain and organize CAD files and project documentation.
• Collaborate remotely with engineers and other team members to clarify design intent.
• Perform basic dimensional checks and verification of drawing content.
• Support the creation of technical manuals and assembly instructions.
• Ensure efficient and timely completion of drafting tasks.
