Job summary

American Equipment Systems is seeking a Mechanical Designer-I to assist in designing overhead crane systems. You will work with 3D design models, apply company standards, and produce customer submittal drawings and fabrication packs under supervision.

The role offers exposure to mechanical detailing, fabrication processes, and continuous improvement practices while developing through three design levels toward independent work.

Qualifications

• SolidWorks 3D mechanical design experience with CAD/PD​M tools.

Position Summary:

The Mechanical Designer-I is an entry-level engineering design position responsible for supporting the design and fabrication of overhead crane systems and related equipment. The Designer-I uses company-developed 3D automated design models, engineering standards, con?guration tools, and established design practices to develop accurate customer submittal drawings and complete fabrication drawing sets.

This position works under the direction of experienced Modelers, Designers and Engineers and is intended to develop proficiency in overhead crane design, mechanical and structural detailing, fabricating processes, drawing standards, and product configuration. Mechanical Design-I has a career path through three levels of Design.

The Designer-I is primarily responsible for the accurate application of established designs and standards, rather than performing independent engineering analysis or developing new engineered solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assignments are prioritized, but have multiple timelines and deliverables.
• Learn to read and understand customer specifications and industry requirements.
• Prepare customer submittal drawings.
• Prepare fabrication drawing packages.
• Incorporate redlines from Fabrication into equipment models for As-Builts.
• Accuracy of information obtained, recorded, used and published, is essential.
• Further develop skills in producing drawings with drawing standards and industry practices.
• Follow Company policies, procedures and documentation requirements.
• Adhere to all safety training and participation requirements.
• Use Automated 3D design models and adapt Models for project drawings, BOMs, and technical documentation.
• Collaborate with engineering, fabrication, and project management to ensure design meets customer needs and the Company’s design requirements.
• Participate in design reviews and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
• Ensure designs meet applicable industry standards and safety regulations.
• Able to execute Kit and Simple 3D design work.
• Create detailed Bills of Material from modeling for the ERP system.
• Learn, utilize, and implement continuous improvement methodologies such as Lean, TOC, 6s, APICS, & 80/20
• Scan, file, and save all documents pertaining to the job
• Keep accurate time for each job
• Any other responsibilities assigned by 3D Design Lead

Quali?cations:

• SolidWorks 3D mechanical design and experience with PDM and part creation preferred.
• Understanding of mechanical systems, materials, and fabrication processes
• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
• Effective communication and teamwork abilities
• Legacy AutoCAD utilization
• In depth understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing
• Understanding of basic engineering principles
• Familiar with industry codes of CMAA, ANSI/ASME, OSHA, preferred.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office software

Education and Experience

• Associate degree in Drafting, Design Technology, Mechanical Design, Engineering Technology, or related technical discipline
• Technical school or vocational CAD/design program
• Demonstrated equivalent SolidWorks/CAD training and technical aptitude
• Relevant manufacturing or fabrication experience combined with formal CAD training
• SolidWorks Associate (CSWA) preferred

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position at the Location above. Typical work hours and days are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m.
