Job Title:

Experienced Mechanical Designer – Telecommunications Industry (Remote)

Job Description:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Mechanical Designer to join our international team in developing cutting-edge outside plant connectivity products for the U.S. and North American telecommunications market. The ideal candidate will be proficient in 3D CAD modeling of various plastic injection molded components using Creo, SolidWorks, or Inventor and will collaborate with a seasoned global team of engineers, designers, and product managers. This is a remote position, offering the flexibility to work from home while contributing to impactful projects in a dynamic industry.

Key Responsibilities:

• Product Design & Development:
• Create detailed 3D CAD models, drawings, and assemblies for outside plant connectivity products (e.g., fiber optic enclosures, terminals, closures).
• Ensure designs meet Telcordia, IEC, and GR-series compliance standards for outside plant equipment.
• Perform DFM (Design for Manufacturability) and DFMEA analysis to optimize product reliability and performance.
• Work closely with international cross-functional teams (engineering, product management, and manufacturing) to develop and refine product designs.
• Participate in regular design reviews, providing technical input and resolving design issues.
• Communicate effectively with suppliers and manufacturing partners.
• CAD Modeling & Documentation:
• Develop and maintain detailed mechanical drawings, BOMs, and product documentation.
• Manage revisions and configurations
• Prototyping & Testing Support:
• Collaborate with the engineering team to support prototyping and testing activities.
• Incorporate feedback from testing into design modifications.
• Travel
• 10-20% travel to various customer sites and production facility

Required Qualifications:

Experience:

• Minimum 5+ years of experience in mechanical design for the telecommunications industry, preferably with outside plant products.

Software Proficiency:

• Advanced proficiency in Creo, SolidWorks, or Inventor for 3D modeling and 2D drafting.
• Experience with PLM/PDM systems for managing design data.

Technical Skills:

• Strong knowledge of sheet metal, plastic injection molding, and die-casting design principles.
• Strong knowledge of plastic part of design for injection molding
• Familiarity with fiber optic cable management and connectivity solutions is a plus.
• Understanding of Telcordia GR, IEC, and ANSI standards applicable to outside plant equipment.

• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a remote, collaborative, and multicultural team environment.
