Job summary

Luvata Appleton LLC in Wisconsin is seeking a Mechanical Designer to design, develop, and modify mechanical equipment, tooling, fixtures, and manufacturing systems to boost reliability and safety. Qualifications

• Associate Degree in Mechanical Design or related field preferred.
• 3–5 years of mechanical design experience in a manufacturing environment.

• Create, modify, and maintain detailed mechanical drawings, layouts, and assemblies using Autodesk applications.
• Develop designs for manufacturing equipment, tooling, fixtures, guards, and process improvements.
• Support capital projects from concept through installation with updated drawings and documentation.
• Collaborate with engineers, maintenance, and production teams to identify equipment improvements.
• Perform field measurements and evaluations to support design projects.
• Maintain drawing revisions and documentation per company standards.
• Produce BOMs and assist with parts identification and procurement.
• Provide technical support during installations, modifications, and startup activities.
• Ensure designs comply with safety, regulatory, and engineering standards.
• Participate in root cause analysis and CI initiatives to reduce downtime and boost efficiency.
• Support multiple projects simultaneously while meeting timelines.

Job description

The Mechanical Designer is responsible for designing, developing, and modifying mechanical equipment, tooling, fixtures, and manufacturing systems to support production, maintenance, safety, and continuous improvement initiatives. This position works closely with Engineering, Maintenance, Manufacturing, and Operations teams to create detailed designs and technical drawings that improve equipment reliability, productivity, quality, and safety.

• Create, modify, and maintain detailed mechanical drawings, layouts, and assemblies using Autodesk applications.
• Develop designs for manufacturing equipment, tooling, fixtures, guards, and process improvement projects.
• Support capital projects from concept through installation by creating and updating engineering drawings and documentation.
• Collaborate with engineers, maintenance personnel, and production teams to identify and implement equipment improvements.
• Perform field measurements and equipment evaluations to support design projects.
• Maintain drawing revisions and engineering documentation in accordance with company standards.
• Produce bills of materials (BOMs) and assist with parts identification and procurement activities.
• Provide technical support during equipment installations, modifications, and startup activities.
• Ensure designs comply with applicable safety, regulatory, and engineering standards.
• Participate in root cause analysis and continuous improvement initiatives aimed at reducing downtime and improving operational efficiency.
• Support multiple projects simultaneously while meeting project timelines and deliverables.

Knowledge & Experience Requirements

• Associate Degree in Mechanical Design, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Drafting Technology, or a related field preferred.
• Minimum of 3-5 years of mechanical design experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Experience designing industrial equipment, production systems, tooling, or mechanical components.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD Mechanical and Inventor strongly preferred.
• Experience interpreting and developing mechanical drawings, schematics, and layouts.
• Knowledge of manufacturing processes, fabrication methods, machining, welding, and assembly techniques.
• Ability to create and modify detailed engineering drawings and bills of materials.
• Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
• Experience with project management and engineering documentation preferred.

Work Environment

• This position is primarily performed in an office environment within a manufacturing facility. • Appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses and steel-toed footwear, may be required when entering designated production areas. The noise level in the office environment is generally moderate but may be higher when working in manufacturing areas.
